....and saw you get your award....

Err, that wasn't me. I won my class, but missed the awards ceremony. I picked up my plaque and jacket after the pics were taken.....

I like your new plates!

Err, I've had my plates for almost four years now....

Are they adjustable? Do they work well?

Yes. Yes.

Naaaa.. That was Adrian, from Mesa, Arizona. He owns the '90 IROC-Z convertible. I made it to the awards ceremony in time to see his group pic taken... I missed it. Well, at least I get my name in their magazine. Hope they spell it right this time. Back in 1998 when I won with my Z28 convertible, they misspelled my last name!!

(Gotta try out my new sig!)

Willie - do you lift bars push up on the floor pan? If not, where do the end of the lift bars push up on the body?

I posted some pics on the appropriate board for lift bar questions, the Suspension / Chassis / Brake Board.

Go there for any lift bar stuff...

Alright, it's good to hear you won. I'll tell ya what, those pictures do the exhaust no justice, in person it looks sooo much better. It's a trick setup. Congrats on the win Willie.

This is a real nice setup. Nice enough that I want to copy it...

Since 4th gen catbacks are supposed to fit 3rd gens, I called Magnaflow to see if they'd sell their V6 2.5" intermediate pipes without the rest of the system. Unfortunately, they won't. Theoretically, all you need to get is two of these 2.5" pipes and then only have fabriacte the muffler section and put the crossover. Anyone know of another company selling COTS 2.5" 4th gen pipes? The Magnaflow were stainless which would be nice so they'd last forever.

Dynomax's cat-back for 3rd gens uses a 2.5" intermediate pipe. Mine does, anyway.

Well it depends what dynomax system you get. The systems for dual cat cars I know are 3". I think I read somewhere though that you can buy just the intermediate pipes from dynomax

Dynomax aluminized 2.5" intermediate pipes for H & E engine codes in 83-92 F-bodies. Part #47638. Summit carries them for $74.69.

This might be a fun project for somebody. Get the two Dynomax 2.5" intermediates, run them both down the stock route. After they come over the axle and bend toward the drivers side run two of those mufflers like willie's. After the mufflers, make bends 90 degrees toward the back of the car and, BAM!, true two on the left duals.

SLP has stainless, but only 3" pipes ($118 each). Mufflex has 3.5" and 4" aluminized pipes.

So would the standard bends work, or do you need some custom angles put in to get both over the axle?

Sweet looking exhaust, I 'd like to do something similar. As L98 Z28 asked, what kind of bends do you need to get over the axle?

hey willie

love the setup and would like to run something by you and the others with something that came up when talking with my dad. i'm in the early stages of redoing my whole exhaust.

the idea was to run the pipes opposite to what you have so, the LH pipe (facing the engine) instead of going to the LH side of the muffler setup and exiting on the left having it go to the RH side of the muffler whereas the RH pipe would run across to the like the willie LH pipe does and have it exit on the RH.

so where willie's system has the pipes exiting opposite to how they run having them exiting on the same side as they run. the purpose to have more of equal length pipes running the complete length of the car. thus enhancing the use of an H or X pipe and flow.

any thoughts?

Kyle

So basically the driver side exhaust would end up exiting on the driver side, and the passenger side would exit on the passenger side, thus having the longer length of pipe in the rear for the passenger side to make up for the driver side's longer length in the front. Makes sense to try to get equal total path lengths for the two sides, but I'd think the length before the crossover would effect the crossover's performace and this routing won't change that length.

I think you're gonna like what I have to say about my exhaust...

From the headers to the cats:
The driver's side pipe is a couple of feet longer. It runs across the oil pan, then down the body of the car to the cat. This pipe becomes the "outer" pipe, while the passenger side header's pipe becomes the "inner".

So at the cats, the driver's side exhaust pipe is longer (about two feet).

From the cats to the mufflers, then out the tailpipes:
Both pipes run along the body and over the axle. The "outer" (or driver's side) pipe takes a 90-degree bend into one muffler (call this the driver's side muffler), another 90 and out the driver's side tailpipe. The "inner" (or passenger's side) takes a 90-degree bend, then literally over the driver's side muffler, then a 180-degree bend into the second (or passenger's) muffler, then out the passenger side tailpipe.

So the section of pipe from over-the-axle to the tailpipes, the passenger side pipe is a couple of feet longer.

Summing up the total length of each pipe:
You're looking at approximately an equal length of pipe on both sides!! Pretty cool, huh?

I posted more revealing pics and this thread is getting bogged down, especially for "dial-up" guys (like me)...
