Which would sound better?

Would a gutted cat sound better than a straight pipe? I want the most mellow sound. Have no money for a high flow so Im not going to buy one.

Straight pipes have all of the cool sound of a rusty 1969 F*rd F-700 truck with the exhaust hanging from coat hanger wire. A gutted cat, alone, would sound like that truck's muffler before it fell off about five years ago!

Glasspacks are better than nothing and they are cheap.

Haven't we beaten this around a while already? Gutted cat, buy a cat-back, any performance cat-back, key is, same diameter pipe, possibly larger diameter than stock, quality muffler, tips of choice. Can't really go wrong with a flowmaster cat-back, any decibel level you want, for the most part

I agree, but I think Monkie is looking for something that can be purchased with pocket change...I've been there before. Monkie, have you tried going to the car junkyards? Every now and then, you can find some decent, undamaged, mufflers and pipes.

Well I got 140 bucks now. But I dont think I wanna spend it. Im gonna save up for the swap. But I dont know if I should put in a straight pipe. It would be free. But would it sound redneckish?
