Solder?

OK, I got my new cats installed for the most part but after going through 4 bottles of oxygen and at $8 a pop, I got all but 2 seams completed.
I had to install an adapter from the cat into the Y pipe and naturally since I did not clean the rust from the Y pipe far enough back (I did clean the edge but the adapter ended up further over the pipe than I had cleaned) so I could not get the weld to stick. Now since the rest of the system is welded together I cannot move it around and if I try to move the Y pipe back to back the clean section out of the adapter it will make the back end all *beep*.

So here is what I am thinking, install a clamp over this section for strength but since there will end up being a gap between the two sections I was thinking I could solder that section, after I clean the Y pipe of course, to prevent leakage.

Is this going to cause me any trouble in the future?
Will this pass a visual inspection?
Is there anything I should know before I start and complete this?

From: out of my mind; be back in 5 minutes....
Car: 1989 Firebird Formula
Engine: Internal Combustion
Transmission: Completed
Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
Solder will not hold up to the heat....likely won't last more than a minute.

What you can use is that "Muffler Mender" crap they have at AutoZone. Get the screen wrap for it to.

I was putting a new cat on mine and used an air hammer and one of those pickle fork looking prongs. I got a little to hasty and dug a hole in the y pipe right where they meet.

I was too cheap to go buy a new y-pipe since I'll be getting headers later anyway. I bought that stuff and put it on about 7 months ago and it hasn't leaked or cracked yet. It hasn't been through winter yet, but even if it does leak I can fix it again in the spring.

So basically I'm telling you the stuff works for at least that long. And it's cheap.
