300 Hp????

I've had a guy who is a grade A mechanic, car guy etc.....
tell me that with porting, polishing heads, a new cam, and a full exaust swap (headers, high flow cat, cat-back) that I could get 300 HP out of a 350 TPI. it that possible?
sounds that I'd have to do alittle more to the car to get 300HP.
anyone have any ideas.
thanks.
BTW he says that he is willing to do the work.

The real question is are you willing to pay the money for that kind of work? Just about everything you listed is labor intensive. Cost you lots of money just for labor, not including parts.

he says he is willing to do the work for free, or maybe a few cases of beer....of course I would be there getting in the way.

Thats a hell of a lot of work to do. Course, if its not your daily driver then its no problem. My GTA will by my daily driver for a few months. I'm hopefully going to get a decent junker for the winter. I'll probably get an over the hill honda, escort, or somethin else like that.

Well, if you put a lot of time into those heads like f-Bird and them put into their heads, and get a nice roller cam, seems very possible to me.

That's only what 70 hp from cam/head work/and full exhaust.

The exhaust I would say will give you 25-30 that's half way there.

I think you could make a little more than 300hp, maybe not much, more .

we'll see
That is going to be my goal till the Nat.
that way I'll run it there and see if I would get those numbers.
the car is my daily driver, BUT, like i said before it's only 1 mile to work, and I've got the bike too if I need to go somewhere, and can snag my roomates truck too if I need something. I can deal with the car going down for say a week or two at a time.

what kind of gains would I get from working the heads?
thanks

It will be pointless really to work the heads and not the exhaust. The heads can breathe , but then will just be choked by the stock exhaust.

I would think you might gain 15-20 hp. I think(correct me if I am wrong) that porting and polishing the heads will moreas make you lose a little of your bottom end trq, as if you dont have any to spare, and you will be able to breathe better on top end. That is just what I would think, but that could just be for LB9, but I know that the factory heads on most of the 3rd Gens, if not all of them, are so damn resrictive.

that sounds like really good gains.
I just don't have the grand plus I would want for new heads right now.

You could either have your stock heads port and polished, or you might be able to get some LT1 heads? Possibly, do not know about the LT1 heads, if someone could verify....

Umm, LT1 heads are reversed cooled if IRC, which I don't think will work.

Lingenfelter (how is he doing btw?) got a set of LT1 heads to work on a non-LT1 engine. He said it wasn't worth the bother as there were better heads out there.
