Hooker header decision

hey i want to buy some hooker headers but i really don't know what to get. long tube or shorties? hows the ground clearance of the long tubes if the the car is lowered 1-2"? and what size primaries? 1 5/8" i was thinking. hooker competitions are the shorties and super comps are the long tubes, correct? any advice would be helpful. thanks

I stay shortie if i was you. Unless your making like 500hp then longtubes for sure.

The ground clearance of the longtube headers themselves isnt the problem...its the exhaust. Even if you got a y pipe made for the longtubes it would kill ground clearance.

Just get the Hooker 2055s or the edelbrock TES #6872

They are both shorty design and come with 3'' y pipes.

Longtubes and true duals does sound SOOO awesome tho. *** I love the way my car sounds.

Go with the Hooker 2055s (shorties). Like TBI305 already said, they come with 3in y-pipes (they're smog legal too, if that matters to you).

If you're buying them new, I'd go with the Hooker's with the 3" Y-pipe, like others have commented on. They run like $350 uncoated. I went with the smog legal Hedman's with the AIR lines removed, as I scored them cheap. I'm VERY pleased with fit, quality, and especially spark plug access. I can't comment on the Hooker's here, because I haven't used them.

I've NEVER has a major problem out of any headers I've used from Hooker or Hedman. This covers more than a few different type cars.

I tried Flowtech's once......and in my case, they weren't worth the money savings in purchase price. Had to massage the crap out of several pipes and grind the collector for frame clearance in a G-Body.

I used Dynomax full length on a truck once. They fit fine ( trucks usually don't have fitment issues, lots of room on the older Chevy's ) and they seemed fine, but the flanges warped after about 6 months....ended up selling the truck anyway, and the guy replaced them with Hookers.

I was jsut surfing the Jeg's web site and found Edelbrock TES headers coated for $341.99 plus an oversize shipping charge of $5.99. This is the best price I've found anywhere for coated headers for our cars.

Here is a link to the product page.

Not to split hairs, but those are nickel "plated" (read: chrome), not ceramic "coated".

I'm aware of that. They also come with a 1 year warranty on the coating and headers.

You can get the uncoated edelbrock TES headers from advance autoparts fpr cheaper than from jegs. Advance can order them for 299$ Ill check on the chrome ones and see how much they run. For some reason we cant get the hooker 2055s butwe can get them in coated form...I cant fork over the 500$ for that (600$ w/o discount) If i could afford coated headers id probably save up and get those.

Is the Y pipe coated also??

I only said something because there is a lot of discussion about the benefits of ceramic coating of headers - corrosion protection, heat insulation, toughness, long-lasting original appearance. Chrome plating provides the corrosion protection, but not the others.

Jet Hot will warrant their process applied to new headers for life (1 year for coating of used headers).

For Jegs to call the chrome a "coating" is a violation of convention and misleading. Summit properly describes it as plating.

And no,the y-pipe is not plated.

We don't have advance auto store on the west coast. I looked them up and they only have stores in the midwest and east.

I would like to have the hooker headers, but the $560 is a little steep for me for a set of headers, coated or not.
