Loud Exhaust

I was wondering what could I do to get loud exhaust for my 89 T/A 305 TBI. I dont have a lot of money to spend, was looking at the flowmaster muffler for our cars but know how it will sound on a complety stock car? Any information would be helpful.

Kris

Get some headers and plumb them straight into a pair of big, fat diameter sidepipes. LOUD as hell and sounds great!

Just get a Flowmaster 80 series from Jegs for around $60. This will be much louder than you factory muffler.

The first thing I did when I got my '83 Z28 was take the exhaust pipe off from behind the converter, and pushed it aside. It is loud as hell, costs ZERO dollars, and actually helps performance in carbed cars. Mine set off car alarms. You might want to go the whole nine yards and get a cut-out.

so you don't have a tailpipe after the cat? Wow, that a pretty cool idea. How much does a set of sidepipes for our cars cost? Thanks

When I was a stupid kid (2 years ago), and I first got my car, I wanted it to sound like a NASCAR, so I disconnected the exhaust pipe behind the cat, and tucked it up beside the cat. This was loud as hell, and actually helped out performance until the y-pipe started to separate from the manifold. When this happened fire was actually hitting the fire wall, and my carpet caught on fire.... actually it was the flame retardant stuff under the carpet that caught on fire...

Now I have a header set-up with a cut-out right before the cat. If you want to know more about cut-outs, go to JCWhitney or JEGS.

Im just running straight pipe. This wasnt by choice but im used to it now. The crappy lot that i bought my car at had to do some repairs to my car and they somehow CRACKED my exhaust pipe right before the cat. I didnt feel like waitin another week for my car so i just replaced the cat with a piece of pipe. Sounds loud and fast.

Funny how the flame retardent stuff caught fire! What kind of cutout do you have? Is it the one that you unbolt, or pull a cord to cut it? Also, did you have to weld these things on?

Mine is on a cable, but I am seriously interested in the electronic servo one that someone posted about... and yes, you should weld it in.
