Dual exhaust

I know that this is a stupid question but can I put true dual exhaust on my 1992 camaro. The reason I ask is a local exhaust person said that it can not be done. If it can be done can someone explain what I will need to successfully finish the job.

The person who owned my 305 TBI before ran into the same problem. Yes it can be done but there is a serious clearence problem. If you plan on doing any suspension mods i would not do a "true dual." I have one pipe that splits into two out the back and it sounds and performs just fine. I would recomend getting a dual cat off another Camaro that was equipt with it. That and the single set up (split out the back though) would be just fine and should still give you plenty of extra horses. Plus the single setup is designed to fit in the groove of the origional pipe, providing the proper clearance. A dual pipe places the pipes outside this groove and greatly takes away necessary clearance. But if you plan on driving roads that are 180 degrees flat, than by all means go for it. I have nose clearance problems as it is and I can only imajine how bad it would be if I had more pipe down there!

Yeah, I remeber seeing a true dual. It ran 2 pipes (2.5" I think) side by side and staggered the mufflers in the x-flow position. A single 3" or even the new 4" systems would be alot eisier to work (Thats alot of custom bends&welds) and be just as good IMO.

ya, you can do it, but to do it well you need lots of cash and small mufflers. Im planing on doing true dual sometime. Im gona run Brola XR-1 race mufflers cause they are so damn small. i have seen a few pics of ture duals on third gens, both side exit and all the way back, it can be done but you need a good exhaust shop that is willing to work with you. if you want more info on my plan for the true dual on my car email me.

it is possable, i have a true dual exaust on my 84... you need the right headers, and alot of time to mess with it, cause a exaust shop will not do it, because you can not do it and mantain you cat' converter...

I dont think most people are going with the true duels for the power alone, but the awesome sound that comes with it.

I'm cheating and going with side-exit exhaust (dual 3") with high flow cats and no mufflers..
