Catco cat made for a F-body $119
universal cat $98
sometimes I wish I did buy a long metal bar and hammer instead.

nothing flows better than no cat at all though .... plus its cheaper (gutted cat: metal bar, hammer, a couple of hours time OR straight pipe to weld in - 5 bucks or so)

So does a gutted cat increase performance?

While I know it opens up more airflow.. and makes the car a little louder, I heard a gutted cat causes a loss of back-pressure, which can actually decrease performance... this true or just myth?

I've got a Catco High-Flo cat... but maybe I'll gut it if it produces some gains..

I've heard from a couple of different people that the random technologies cat is supposed to flow the best. I think I'm going with that and a set of hooker shorties up front.

What if you cant get the damn cat off to gut it. Ive tried and tried to get the bastard off but its so rusted it wont move. I know I cant take it to any muffler shop and tell them to just take off my cat and hand it to me while I go out back and slam a pipe down the center of it and then hand it back and tell them to put it back on for me. Any ways around this?

Like someone already said, you want NO BACKPRESSURE.

But, a gutted cat, can't beat a straight pipe. The design of a hollowed cat can actually interfere with air flow.

Talk to a shop before hand, a local one, not like Midas or anything, sometimes will do it for you.

The gutted cat on my car seems to give the exhaust kind of a tinny sound when standing on the passenger side of the car near where the cat is located.

1/2 inch ratchet .. put a metal pipe on the handle for extra length (which equals more leverage) soak it in some penetrating oil (like wd40 or liquid nails) that should do the trick...if not take a little propane torch to it then go at it... shouldn't be a problem at all.

Hey Dan's 82 isn't I don't believe soaking it in liquid nails would help him much being that it is a construction adhesive.
