Tips with glasspacks?

Hey guys I just got a stock muffler put on, it was pretty cheap to do so, so I did it and put it on a credit card kinda rating, but anyways since my car is not as loud as I would like it right now, I was wondering if those Tips with teh glasspacks do anything?

These are nice tips, its a dual pipes goes into one, both of them have glasspacks so in total thats 4 glasspacks...

casue its a straight pipe and than has 2 chorme pipes that goes into 2.

u knwo what I mean?

dave, those tips will make your exhaust even quiter. those tips are designed to reduce sound even more. i know exactly the ones you are talking about, i see them everytime i am at canadian tire. they are not worth the money.

do you want a whole cat-back? if so and u want a loud one i would recommend the 3" american thunder from flowmaster. It has a good exhaust note and is loud like you want. Just a thought, but there are others like Hooker, Borla, Mufflex, etc. Just look around and get some sound clips to see what you like best, but i will say i do love my flowmaster and alot of other people do as well.

hope this somewhat helps

anytime you have the stock muffler on there it will not be loud (unless its completely rested out, then it will sound like crap). you can buy just a high flow muffler like a hooker or a flowmaster, and replace the stock muffler with it, that way all your new pipes wont go to waste. however, Dave, there is no way you will have a loud exhaust, with a nice tone to it, with the stock muffler. if you want really loud, get a cutout welded in after the y-pipe and before the catalytic convertor.

You could try and enhance the sound by gutting out the cat and/or a new set of headers, but those tips are like another muffler on top of the new one you just put on. In addition, those tips usually end up sounding like a little honda four-cyl on crack. I would not suggest those tips. I would, however, gut the cat if you don't have to go through emissions. if you do, many companies produce 50-state legal headers, which stand to increace the sound level much more than any tip I ever saw.

if you want loud, your going to have to get ride of the stock muffler and get a new one, there is no way a stock muffler will get loud unless like the other guy said, its completely beat to hell and back.....thats my .02

On my 85 bird i had a custom 3 inch pipe made from the cat back then split in the back to 2 4 inch chrome tips, no muffler, it sounds really nice not as loud as id like but ill take care of that when i get my 383 built and headers. But it have a very nice tone and sounds awesome at WOT it cost me about $320 to have done with all stainless steel pipe, I havent really looked into what catback systems are going for but i think its a pretty good deal.

Yeah......if you want a nice solid deep tone...get a cat back system.....do your research on like flowmaster, hooker, borla, slp...etc.....I went with 3 inch cat back 80 series flowmaster....3 inch exhaust cut out...both cats removed...3 1/2 tips....and with the cut out tuned to the right tone....my car is like one of the loudest....deepest...most aggressive cars in my side of the town......lol Then again....it depends howl oud you want it too. Mine is so loud...I can still hear it over my stereo like on 15.....I nice cat back system would sound good though...the only reason mine is so loud is because of the exhaust cut out...and it's a 5.7....(and will be adding a set of headers next summer)....

i cant remember which site it was, but there was a guy that took two 45* tubing bends, cut out holes in the pipe going into the muffler and the pipe going out of the muffler (on the same side), and attatched the new tubing in there. if i find the site, i'll post it

that is an exhaust bypass....some of your exhaust will go through your muffler like normal, but some will go through that new tube and into the tailpipe un muffled. dont ask me how it will sound, and i think that performance gains will be minimal, but it is the only way i can think of (besides a cutout) to make your car significantly louder

i had those tips on my bird, what ya do is buy a short piece of y pipe, just basically one input to two output, and put that in place of the muffler, run short pipes out and a couple 90 degree elbows, and put those resonator tips on there, but leave the converter on, and it will sound bad as heel, i wouldve kept mine on, but i wouldve had to go into a shop, and have the system made right, to account for the system not comming out straight as id like, but it was a great sounding system with no muffler and 2 of those tips. Heres a pic of dual tips, not the best angle, but you get the idea, doesnt look bad either if you can get them both to come out straight.

I personally dont even like the sound of the glass packs on third gen or even Cars alone. You would get a much better note and more hp from a new exhaust system but I do agree that if you dont want to replace the origional set up you should get some headers, I personally like Hooker but as you can see their is no right or wrong on this topic and you might want to listen to some sound clips which are posted on the site homepage to see what you like the best.
