Nascar Style Side Pipes (Do or Dont?)

I plan on getting aftermarket exhuast this summer, when I get my engine swap done. Now, I've been looking into exhuast and havent really seen anything that appeals to me alot in the looks catagory. I don't really dig the thought of 3 inch crome pipes out the back of my 91, and I don't want a stock look either. A friend of mine recomended the flat style side pipes. Like the ones from Nascar. I know they sell them and I'm sure with a little custom welding and piping, I could get them on there. Anyone tried it, or seen it on a third gen? Let me know your thoughts on looks and if you think its possible. Also I'd love to hear any other ideas. Thanks

I knew a guy who had them on a red 87 TA...he kept them painted black and they looked and sounded badass....however, I wouldn't recomend getting them unless you have a mean motor to back em up. Those side pipes can stir up a lot of races when people see them!

Sweet, so its been done. I knew there had to be someone out there who had done it. I'm also glad to hear that it accually sounds "BADASS". So it looks and sounds awsome, then I'll definitly go with it this summer. Thanks for the reply

I've never seen this, but have been thinking of doing it for a while. I think it would be extremely cool to do. Especially if you can tuck it up under the floor tight. I would even cut out a space in my ground effects to flush mount the tips. You'd have to make sure the heat won't hurt them though. Be careful if you do it because you may suck more exhaust into your interior. I had an exhaust leak near the passenger door and with the window cracked, the car would suck in a lot of exhaust. I tried to kill myself and a couple of friends on a trip to Florida with carbon monoxide. I've fixed it since then. Be sure to post pics if you do it. Good luck.

Thought you guys might want to see this. It belongs to "CarnDrvr" who is trying to sell it right now. If I was him, I wouldn't sell it. I think it looks awesome. But anyway, about the tips, I like his setup, don't know if he has two more poking out the other side, but I assume it's just this side, since that's where the pipes run anyway.

Looks to be pretty close to scraping though, I think it would be awesome if they were tucked up in the ground effects like some other people suggested...

Man, I can't believe this car though. He hit the nail right on the head as far as exactly what I was going to do with mine. Just when you think you're being different...

Yeah I'm with you there Frank. Having a piece cut out of the ground fx for the pipe would look really BAD!!!! I was pondering that, but I'm afraid of the cost, and risk of someone cutting it wrong. So I think I'll start with it under the ground fx if I do it this summer. Also thanks for that pic RoadRacin, cool to have an idea what it'd look like. I think I wana go with the nascar pipes though over the one your friend used. I figure they will conceal themselves beter and reduce sraping. I also think the rectangle pipe would match the cars styling beter than the cirle or twin circle pipes. (His still looks sweet, dont get me wrong)
Here is a pic of the type of pipe I want. Pic isn't too great, but I think you can see the idea.

So are you going with the just plain rectangle, or the one that looks more like a triangle? Either way, I think it will look awesome, and I would definetly try to see if you can poke it up in the ground effects. Make sure you post some pictures when you get it done!!!
