If i were to take the cat off would it make the flowmaster sound louder.?????

 

It's not going to make it like 10 times louder...but..yeah....if will make it a little louder....I had the dual cat set up on my 91 Z28...had them both removed and it made it quit a bit louder.....anybody elese have any input??

 

what about gutting the cat ive heard this term used before but would it work???

 

Pretty sure gutting the cat would have th same effect as having a piece of pipe put in. When you have a cat that's gutted....it's just a cat with no restriction.....same thing as a straight pipe...you would have the appearance that you still have cat..but..there would be no restritions......

 

just put on a straight pipe instead of the cat. Gutting the cat will cause a lot more restriction to the exhaust. The exhaust is heading trough the y pipe and it hits the gutted converter (much larger area) then it has to reduce back down to the exit size. This will take power, either go with pipe or get a good high-flow cat. Some high-flow's claim to have the smae sound and no cat. Thats what i will be doing when my ehaust is redone. Goodluck

 

Well what to do with the cat is a question whether you have smog or not. If smog isn't a concern I suggest to just get rid of the cat all together. Take it off and replace where it was with exhaust tubing. If you have to pass smog then get a hi-flo cat. A hi-flo cat will make the car noticably louder. If you really want a loud car go for a cutout

 

on my 88 formula 350 my flowmaster sounded pretty loud at around 3,000 rpm and up.. maybe i should of got rid of the cat.. could of been louder i guess

 

im just going to buy a 2 foot pipe and put that in place of the cat and when i have to go for emissions i'll just put the cat back on.
