3 Inch Cut-Out
3 Inch Cut-Out
I have a 3 inch single exhaust pipe and flowmaster. I was wanting to know if there is enough room at the exhaust splitting point under the passenger side door to be able to put in a 3 inch cut-out. One muffler shop I talked to said they wouldn't do it for me because there was not enough room for the extra pipe to exit out the side of the car. "The pipe would pretty much just be dragging the ground."
Does anyone have any experience with this type of thing? Any suggestions?
I am new at working on cars, so please bear with me.

put the cutout after the rear axle and add another 3" tailpipe. that way it will look like dual 3". You can even have different plates made between the tailpipe and the cutout just like the Borla adjustable system

I already have dual 3 inch tips exiting out the back. Do you know of any way to have the exhaust exit before the back tire?
The way my exhaust is setup, It is only 2 1/2 inch until it hits that breaking point under the door, then it widens into 3 inch.
Would it be possible to have a 2 1/2 inch cutout before it widens into the 3 inch? Maybe then the muffler shop would be able to maneuver the smaller pipe to exit before the rear tire.
Any possibilities of that working out?
Thanks for the help.

I had a muffler shop put in a summit cutout. They trimed the ends of the cutout off and then cut the pipe and put it in. IT is kinda close to the groudn, but i think i have only scrapped it once. Also they only charged me $25
Yeah, dtpmike's right. I have the flowmaster single 3", and the summit cut-out. I made the mistake of not painting/coating it. Rust! But, no problem with the exhaust shop.
Obviously, the exhaust shop is going to have to do some cutting to fit the cut-out before your exhaust splits.

ok i am not a exhaust expert, so i am just telling you "my" story
ok i believe it all depends on the total exhaust system from start to finish.
when i dyno-ed her she gain about 35 torque at the rear tires.
and only a whooping 5 hp when opened, but thats mostly middle to upper range rpm levels like full drag cars at the track, open headers.
placement of the cutout is important too.
actually down low when i have it open she kind on dogs, not enough backpressure.
but i mostly us the cutout for SOUND!!! its so much louder

Re: 3 Inch Cut-Out
if im still running the original 305 with 9.3:1 compression ratio, will putting a cut-out in increase my power or would it be a waste of my time and money?
