I hit a pothole going pretty fast and it whacked my my left exhaust pipe(after the muffler) clean off so that the exhaust exits directly from the muffler. i still have the right one on so some exhaust is still coming out of it. At first i was a little pissed, then i heard it. Its great, quiet at idle, nice low thoarty growl at midrange, and it is loud as hell at WOT. This is a stock exhaust too. Not only does it sound incredible but i got a pretty big performance boost. Anybody ever had anything like this happen? i plan on leaving it alone for awhile, am i going to run into any problems? (dont have emissions for another 2 years).

My exhaust once broke entirely just before the rear muffler, due to rust. This was not on a third gen, but just a little 1.6 litre british car. I also noticed an improvement in performance and a wicked sound.
As far as I know this wont hurt your engine, it'll just be similar to running open headers, enjoy it while you can!:lala:

yep that happened to me too, I kind of liked it too,,,,,till the inlet pipe started rusting off too. Then I cut out the cat and got new (stock) pipes from cat back and I put in a Flowtech (cheaper version of say a flowmaster) and when I stated it up and drove out of the muffler shop I all most shat my pants!!!! All it cost was 25 bucks for the pipe(instead of the cat) 30 bucks for the long pipe going from the cat to the muffler, then like 15 bucks for each tailpipe, 100 for the muffler. I love the sound, way better then the rusted muffler sound. I remember that day I didnt even turn my cd player on once, all never forget that day,,,man I had a perma-smile.

I can't imagine just losing a tailpipe would make much of a performance or sound difference, especially on stock exhaust, but if you say so then cool.

Hate to say it, but I think that your gain is all mental bro. If you like the sound then hey, thats cool. But as far as gaining horsepower I seriously doubt that eliminating that one 90 degree bend after the muffler on 1 side will make any measureable difference.

On another note, not many people are aware of the Random Technology exhaust catback setup. If you are looking into buying a catback system check out their site. I would check out their website and I highly reccomend that system, I used to have it before I ran my own dual setup.

A lot of people associate exhaust noise with speed, look at all the Hondas out there

Seriously, you won't gain any performance from what happened, as a tailpipe is not restrictive. Just remember, now you got the sound, how you going to back it up

wow, u guys must think im a moron. ive done a few things to my engine and my exhaust has been VERY restrictive. it isnt mental, i do have a performance increase. its easy to tell because i can burnout for twice as long by just flooring it now. its faster, trust me. (i also noticed i have a halfdollar size hole before the inlet to the muffler now, i think that has alot to do with it)

(ive taken the word big out since that may be throwing you guys off, now it just says performance increase instead of big performance increase. hope that makes you guys feel better about yourselves.)

If you say so. But I bet it just another Camaro doing loud burnouts with a bad exhaust.:lala: :lala:

not really, i dont sit around holding down the brake doing burnouts in parking lots all day. waste your tires, tires are expensive. i rarely even peel out.

Don't take this the wrong way, but an open element isn't going to make a big difference. Granted the factory exhaust sucks, but a tail pipe, and I'm going by what you said, a missing tail pipe will help zero. Now if maybe something else happened perhaps, but a tailpipe that's gone, will give you ZERO performance.

i also got performance sparks and wires
i did mention the giant hole that i now have before my muffler. shouldnt that make me goes fasters? think it happend when the tailpipe fell off

Just buy a new Performance Catback System and correct your bad exhaust. Also the new plugs and wires are what made your car run better now ( not faster) and not the rusted exhaust.
