Which CAT setup??

Hi,

Just purchased an Edelbrock header set for my 91 Formula 350. However I won't install it yet because I'd like to get 'em coated first and also since the Y pipes have to be welded, I'd rather save up for a new dual better-flowing CAT setup and get rid of the stock CATs. I'd like some suggestions on what I can do for the Y pipe and the dual CAT setup. That way I can find out the prices and have an idea of how long it will be before I can buy 'em. I dunno if I should buy direct-fit CATs and then cut and weld to the Edelbrock pipes or just have a custom made Y pipe that will fit to the headers with Universal CATs?

By the way I know a lot of people like to remove their CATs and run straight pipes but I'd like to keep 'em where they are, I just wanna know what would be a good front setup for my car. I'll worry about a CAT back system later. My car is pretty much stock except for a K&N filter, airfoil, flowmaster muffler, low temp stat and some other things. Motor is all stock internally.

Thanks.

You can just get a dual cat Y-pipe or a single cat y-pipe from edelbrock.

I'd leave the cats on. hi-flow cats nowadays flow so well, it's not worth being illegal for a only few horses.

As far as the dual set-up....I think a good catback system with what you already have and a single high flow cat will be fine. Sure the dual cat makes a couple more horses, but you won't notice much of a difference till you start getting serious with your motor mods.

Hey thanx for the replies. Well now I'm thinking of just installing my headers with the stock CATs in there, gutting them out or just plain removing them. I removed my AIR pump from the car so if in fact this increases the chances of the CAT plugging, it would be with the old set, not the new one. Then I can go ahead and install a free flowing set of dual CATs. But for right now I don't have to worry about emissions so the money I would use to buy new CATs,,,I could use to buy maybe a new CATBACK set, upgrading the suspension or even help for a new paintjob.
