why am I cursed to be an idiot please help

It never seems to fail. The smaller the project, the more of an ordeal it becomes. I installed some flowtech headers on my 90' RS. I had to take out the oil dipstick and for the life of me I cannot get it back in to read properly. I changed to oil to exact specs so I know the tank is full. Still no reading though. How far in is it supposed to go? Shouldn't it somewhat slide in? Please help a dumbass in need

Look from underneath and see if the tube that houses the dipstick itself is pulled out from the block. There should be a shoulder on that tube that will be pressed up against the block when it is fully pressed in. If this tube is not in all the way then your dipstick will be in the tube all the way but you will not get a reading on the dipstick. If the dipstick tube is not in the block all the way, get a pair of pliers and put them around the dipstick just above that shoulder.(vice grips work well) Try to hit the pliers with a hammer while someone pushes down on the top of the dipstick with a block of wood or something. Conversly you could pull down on the dipstick while someone else taps on the top of the dipstick with a block of wood and a hammer. Be very careful not to damage the dipstick tube. Hope this helps. -John
