Hooker Tips RUSTING!

I just had the Hooker cat back put on about 3 weeks ago. While the outside finish is still perfect the inside of the tips are covered with surface rust. Since the tips are quad 3" it really stands out and looks crappy and takes away from the cars good looks. Has anyone else had this problem. Can I sand it out or somthing. Or should I complain to hooker, get new tips, and get some electroplating done on them?

Just 3 weeks? Just wait a little longer. After a while it'll be covered by black soot or white powder depending on how your car is running.

My car runs like it is new and only has 28,000 miles on it. My old pipes never had any soot in them so maybe I am out of luck. Geuss I better get some Borla stainless tips.

My tips are rusted as well and have been like this for awhile it took a month or two to start rusting so I'm going to get some stainless steel tips.

Casey'91Z28,

I am gonna get some stainless tips to. I am really dissapointed on how they look. If the pipes weren't so big it would not stand out as much. Seems like they would have designed that better.

Wait another 3 months and the outside will start to rust real bad in between the 2 pipes on each tip.

are you serious!!! I did notice that the crome plating did not get in between the tips very good. Ah man I hope this doen't turn into a fiasco where I have to spend tonds of money to get it to look desent. I hope the rest of the exhaust stays clean.

RED82TA5.7L you live in California....that is WHY you dont get it???? Winters that lead to rust that is!! Even if you dont actually dive the car in the winter, which I dont, they will still rust since its the warming and cooling that causes water to condense on the tips and cause rust. Its worse in between the two pipes on each tip because there is twice the area for condensation to form but half the air circulation to help dry them. To help prevent rusting during winter storge, coat the tips with eighter grease or every few weeks put a coat of wax on them. Or if you must drive the car in the winter, take them off and just store them inside during the winter. Its well worth the trouble since they WILL rust bad if left alone and it is a shame because they look soooo nice!!!!

Mine rusted up a few weeks after I got the catback. That was in the winter. I cleaned the rust off this spring. They rusted right back up, I even used that blue majic crap. I need to clean them up again soon befor it gets so bad I can't get it off.

Don't sand. Just get some steel wool pads, the rust "melts" right off.
