Will Flowmaster 40 Series dual out muffler fit F-body???

I have an '84 Camaro Z28 with stock pipes and single Cat. (which is going to be hollowed). I was wondering if the 40 series muffler made by Flowmaster that has one 2.25" in and two 3" outs will fit my car.

Ummm, are you thinking of the 80 series, which is designed to be mounted transversly, or I guess you could be talking about the 40, but in that case wouldn't it be a 3"in and 2.5" outs...anyway, if its the 80 series yes it will fit, if its the 40 series i will say that you can probably have a muffler shop MAKE it fit somehow for a price. Sorry if that doesnt really answer your question.

Yes, I know that Flowmaster makes an 80 Series replacement muffler, but there is also a 40 Series with a 5"x12"x14" case and three chambers. It is Jegs Part #389-9530462. Does anyone know if this will work?

Thats probably 2 outlets on the same side, because the ONLY crossflow flowmaster is the 80.

40 series are called 2 chamber mufflers, 50 series are 3 chambered mufflers. You can get a 40 or 50 series with a 3" in dual 2.5" out, but the 3" in will be on one side, and the dual 2.5" out will be on the other side. The 80 series is 2.5" in that necks up to a 3" inlet. if you want to use it as a 3" muffler, you need to cut the front of the neck off. It is dual opposite 2.5" outlets. there is even a little neckdown add on piece that comes with it makes it easier to weld it to a 2.25" pipe

Okay the 40 Series sounds a little hard to install if I want tips in the stock location, so how much of a differance is there between the 40 and 80 series mufflers sound? Would you go the extra effort to make the 40 fit?

Thanks,
Matt

I think the muffler you are refering to is made for Chevy trucks and others. It is a 40 series muffler with a 3" inlet and dual 2.5" outlets and sounds pretty good....little louder than the 80 series for our cars. Not a true replacement though as both tailpipes would have to exit out the driver's side of the car...kinda like SLP cat-back system. I have heard this muffler on 3rd gens before and I do believe it is considerably louder than my 80 series with no cat and headers. If you are looking for sound and not worried about the stock pipe location, go with it, if you want stock looking, go with the 80 series.

BTW the 40 makes an awesome sound...you could fit a 40 with single in single out but youd only have one tail pipe

also if you look at the specs on flowmasters site, they DO make a true 3" in 80 series...just ask for it when you call up whoever you get it from...

The 40 series does fit onto the thirdgens. i Just put one on and it was a direct fit. pipes exit in the stock locations. it's a crossflow style with the dual outlets. Instead of ordering the american thunder kit from summit, i got the muffler and a 3 inch pipe so i could have the dual outlets. the kit comes with single outlet muffler

I put in a 40 series flow on my car it has one 3inch inlet and two 2.25" (I think) outlets on opposite sides. Muffler sounds awsome and looks great how it's mounted

Flash: Yeah, the number is 42583. It sounds awesome. now everyone thinks it's a 350!! Only problem now is all the rice can hear it and they feel they have to race some domestics and then get mad when they loose. Anyway, i love the muffler. I have a 3" connecting pipe too, so that helps the sound.
