Why are all Vettes quiet?

I have NEVER heard a loud corvette before. I see tons of them, but they all are so quite. Any particular reason for this?

Because old farts have them and cat backs are EXPENSIVE for them. But seriously, I just saw and heard a kick *** ZR1 today. It had the flowmaster catback. It was very nice but the borla one I heard one time was 20x better.

Depends on the 'vette. I can think of one '69 that just rumbles (guess that's what sidepipes will do for ya). But its true about the new ones. I've never heard an impressive sounding C5.

My dad's 87 has Borla cat-back exhaust. You can barely hear anything inside the car it's so loud. Just like my brothers 87 IROC.

The reason why vettes are so quiet is because by the time you can afford to buy one, you're almost ready for the nursing home. Old people shift too soon and drive slow, so you'd never hear one anyways, even if they had open headers they would seem quiet!

I would think that because most people that can afford to buy vettes don't really want to make it louder or mod it. Most stock exhaust on cars are quiet, didn't the new SS's come with crappy exhaust.

Hmmm...check my sig....98 C5 6spd.....yes, its rather quiet, because the factory stock system is as good as scrap metal. I dont drive like an old fart, because I'm not one...I'll be 23 in March...but I gotta say, when I hit it, after 3 years of owning it, its quite loud-even for a stock system. I can't wait for my Borla XR-1 system

My mom's 96' vette is very quiet at idle, but it has a nice mellow tone to it at mid-rpm's and the thing really yells at ya' when you floor it . Vette's aren't so much the "working man's, soup it up" type of car. They come great out of the factory which is adequate for most people who buy them. The package is very balanced and playing with that can take it out of balance.

I saw a 2002 vette convertable take off from a light the other day, it looked completely stock and it got pretty loud by the time it was revving high... I would say that most that pass you are running at pretty low RPM's because of how the transmissions are geared (something like .5 ratio at top gear). The only vettes I've heard that were genuinely quiet are the 4th gens...

Walk softly and carry a big stick!!! My friends C5 is nice and quiet when crusing, but it will scare the crap out of ya when he steps on it. The thing total screams when hammered, and thats with stock exhaust.

Its thire exhaust system. Pick up a jegs of summit mag. They sell the stuff in here used on vettes to make them quiet. In this jegs they show the inside of this cylinder shape deal that goes behind the headers. it looks kind of like a spiral that the exhaust travels throught. I guess it reduces the echo inside the pipe's.... something like that. Who in thire right mind wants a quiet car anyway. If you want to see a loud vette find your nearest DRAG STRIP <Yeah>

my C4 vette is extremely loud. straight duals, no cats, no mufflers. it has a nice rumble at idle, and screams at WOT. oh and by the way im only 19, so only old people dont own vettes. just depends on what kinda job you got.

the vette is faster, i guess due to wieght and gearing.

Becuase the exhaust system for the vette is good in stock form... and to replace it will give only minimal gains for a very large price tag.

The fact that older people typically own these has something to do with it as well.
