Bung Hole! on 2055 hookers

I just got my new 2055 Hooker headers from Jet Hot. I noticed that the bung hole for the O2 sensor is on the back side of the header. I was expecting it to be on the front. Just wanted to check before I started to put them in. Is this correct?

Why would it matter? What would you do about it if it was wrong?

I was just concerned about clearance between the o2 and the firewall.

Not a problem. I had to "stretch" the sensor wire a little, but no issue with clearance.

I think that they are very well made. Have not yet done the install on how well everything lines up, however, I have read several posts that they were was no problems with interference.

Since I will be attaching the shorties to the block before I put the engine back in I don't expect any hassles.

I'll post pics and info after its done..

Thanks five7kid for the info!!

A nice 3" at the cat end and 2.5 for each y tube.

are they actual Hookers or are they Jet Hots version? Jet Hot is taking Hookers version of the LS1 headers and making them out of thicker steel with a thicker flange. Just wondering if they're doing the same thing with the L98 stuff now too. They look sweet!

Hey five7kid, I did a search and saw where you had opened up the collectors. How exactly did you do this and any sealing problems?

I did a fit check of the y-pipe, snugging the down-pipes up to the collectors. That left a mark on the ball flange of the collector. I then too the y-pipe back off, got out the high speed 4" angle grinder, and opened up the hole in the ball flange to the ID of the down-pipes (about 2-1/4"), centered on the marks left during the fit check. Reinstalled the y-pipe, no leak problems (except when the driver's side loosened up on me - no leaks after retightening).

I think ive decided i'm gonna go with the 2055's and do exactly what you did. The only thing I dont want are the air tubes. Can I just cut them off and weld the holes shut and then grind the weld down to make it look smooth again? Thanks for the info five7kid! Oh and by the way, why only 2 1/4, I thought the y pipe was 2 1/2 to 3 inch? Thanks again

You can do that to the A.I.R. tubes if you like.

The downpipes are 2-1/2" OD. That translates to right around 2-1/4" ID. Opening up the ball flange to the downpipe OD wouldn't increase the flow area.

I'm not totally sure why it faces the back. I think it is for clearance reasons so the O2 sensor will fit without problems, but I'm not totally sure. Anyone else know?

Unless specifically stated otherwise, everybody lists their pipe sizes by OD. So, actually flow area is a function of OD minus wall thickness for the actual ID (which will change, depending upon tubing gage, obviously).
