To answer your question...

Flowmaster (Series 40) is the best (performance wise) and loudest system they put out...

Chambered mufflers are bad for performance from what I hear...But hey if you like it go for it. A 30 series would have to be the loudest then since it's a single chamber muffler. But I see most people running 40 series mufflers.

Can you put a Flowmaster Series 30 on a 3rd Gen? I don't think I've ever seen or heard one... hmm...

iv seen my exact car with a 40 series on it, and to me it didn't seam as loud as my 80 series. but the rate about the same on their site, 40 series are best for dual exhaust set ups.

I think the 50 series comes with the Force II system and without headders mine sounds pretty mean (even with a 305). I cant imagine a 40 series with good headders!

Yeah I like them a lot. They take some time before they start to sound really nice though....mine took about 2 months. But then they are really throaty.

1 chamber . "not for road use" that statment right there tells you how loud its going to be but yes the 40 is the loudest "legal" muffler flowmaster makes.

The 30 series are a lot quieter than the 40s, but the 30s are better for performance, according to flowmaster. Check their website, www.flowmastermufflers.com The 30s are supposed to be somewhat quiet but really deep sounding. I'm going with Borla or Hooker, though.

You say that "most people" run the 40 series. One what car, Mustangs? The 40 series does not fit a 3rd gen unless you completely ditch the factory exhaust routing. The 80 series is a crossflow which is what our cars use, the 40 series is not.

This muffler above, is the 40 series Flowmaster. That will not fit if you want the factory (OEM) exhaust routing... i.e. it is NOT A BOLT-ON. Notice: This muffler is not a crossflow style which 3rdgen's use. It is in one side, out the other.

This muffler above is an 80 series Flowmaster and is a bolt on for a thirdgen. This is the style (crossflow) muffler that all 3rd gen's use. Notice: This muffler sits sideways and the intermediate pipe goes into the one side and then the two pipes curve out of the outlets and sit under the bumper.

Yes, the 40 series is the loudest out of the 30,40,50,80 series, but will not fit a 3rdgen.

The SLP loudmouth doesn't fit, for it is for 4th gens.

However, you can buy the SLP Loudmouth resonator and get that put in and BANG! You now have an SLP Loudmouth.

The 30 series is not the one chamber muffler. The one chamber does not have a series number to it. In order of loudness they go like this Race Mufflers, 1 chamber, 40 series, 50 series, 30 series, 70 series.
The 80 series is a crossflow design that is about as loud as the 50 series. The 30 series is similar to the 50 series but the case is 1 inch thicker providing a slightly quiter deeper tone. The 30 series is also what comes with the Flowmaster force II systems for our cars, it is a single 3in in/out system. The american thunder system comes with an 80 series crossflow muffler. A single in/out muffler will flow better than crossflow style due to less turbulence inside the muffler.
