Need suggestions for side exit setup
Need suggestions for side exit setup
89 bird, zz4, 5spd, frame ties and exhuast headaches. I'm trying to find a clean setup for side exit exhaust that isn't window-rattling loud and doesn't involve hanging full mufflers so I don't have to give an endurance check my banks speed bumps. After reviewing options, they seem limited. Are bullet style mufflers going to give me better clearance, and are they going to stifle at least some of the noise? I'd like the option of midnight runs to the grocery store without the entire neighborhood realizing I'm hungry. Does anyone have an under car picture of what's been done already? I was hoping to keep everything tucked up underneath the car, and then have rectangular tips just poking out by the rear tires. Also, I've seen many cars where the exhaust goes out towards the back, but the pipe doesn't actually extend beyond say...the back seats. Does this make for as much in car smell and noise as it seems? I've tried searching the old material, and these seemed unanswered, or not in great detail. Thanks for any help, and I'll be glad to post any pictures of the job afterwards.

Personally, i am new to all of this, so I can only offer my non-professional insight. You have SOME options when it comes to side exit exhaust. I have seen these things...Spin Tech mufflers, I think, that are rectangular and flat, giving you maximum ground clearance (since they would have to be mounted lower to the ground than the stock setup). If you wanted to avoid resonance and exhaust in the cabin, I would just concern myself with how the pipes are pointed and the tips you use (nothing pointing upwards, obviously). Another option might be looking into what Borla has to offer...I know they make side-exit systems for Mustangs (i have seen them), so perhaps they have a setup for you. Personally, I just prefer the traditional rear-exit style exhaust...I find that it looks "meaner"

I have a v6 and I'm thinking of putting my y pipe tips back on my car but I saw another v6 with the side exits so How loud do you actually think it would be with no muffler? Keep in Mind my sig and my current exhaust setup and What do you think it would cost me to get what I have cut off then the new ones rewelded and hanging out the sides
