Help// Header Question
Edlebrock TES Headers for my 91 Firebird!
The shop is installign them and there
is a problem.
The problem is the heater pipe is resting against the header on the passenger side,
which the guy says will get hot and melt the hose and cause the car to possibly overheat.
also he says on the drivers side the header will rest against the steering knuckle, which
could melt the plastic of the knuckle, and will probably rub against the header..
is there some aftermarket pipe that will allow me to re-route the water pipe up and over and tie into the hose above..
and what bout the steering knuckle.
That should be the mechanic's problem not yours, he's the one that took the job on to begin with. But with the heater hose, there should be some way to tie the hose or maybe to possibly shorten it (to cut out some slack?) to prevent that from touching the headers. The steering knuckle... I dont know what to do. Also make sure the spark plug wires don't touch the headers!

well if it were just hose, but it's hose
up at the top, but then it goes into a
metal pipe.
the mecanic is going to fix it when
he finds out exactly what is neeeded.
that is the problem.. He is gonna
call edlebrock first thing in the morning
cuz technically, these edlebrock headers are madee for this year car, and these problems shouldnt even be an issue if they are "designed to fit" but, it is aftermarket stuff so I expeect some probs.. I know people on here have the edelbrock tes headers.. I would like to know if any of these things were issues on your guys cars????

He could eliminate that metal tube on the passenger side. It's tough to get at, but it could easily be replaced with a tee-fitting and some more heater hose.

I used to be a mechanic and i don't see how you could "pre measure" the space hwere the header is going to go. Its easy enough to just take the manifold off and pop the header down there no problems. I hope he isn't going to charge you too much for the job.. hopefully only about 100 bucks or 2 hours i'd say. Maybe a little more
