Semi-Quiet Exhaust system...
I've been doing a lot of reading on here, but still have some standing waves about the exhaust system. Man that was a horrible pun
I like quiet, deep-sounding mufflers that aren't INYOURFACE loud. Also I like it to sound good throughout the entire RPM range.. no flippy-farty sounds and minimal cackling If it gets loud at WOT, then all the better
When people on here speak of Dynomax mufflers as being TOO quiet, are you guys speaking of the Turbo's or the Ultra-Flo's? I just cant see a muffler being QUIET when I can see right through the damn thing Obivously Dnomax or Magnaflow is gonna shine in the flow department, so we don't need to talk there.
So, sound is #1 concern right now.
The hooker system has caught my attention, however in the videos/clips I have seen/heard it seems LOUD! Nice sound, however.
I also like the sound of flowmaster, but the 3-chamber series (non-crossflow). Is it possible to install standard mufflers behind the axle? Or will it look like ****?
The car will be a 350 TPI Trans-AM GTA, year undetermined yet, as I have several cars I am currently looking into purchasing.
The exhaust system (minus muffler) will consist of Hooker Headers, and dual-high flow cats (cutout pre-cat) and hopefully, 3" piping.
So for those of you that are still with me after wading through my bull****, any thoughts/suggestions/comments?
Also, shout-out to big-bad FYRARMS, if he still comes here! :hail:

Flowmaster:
30 series: deep powerful sound (quieter than 50 series)
40 series: powerful aggressive tone (noticible interior resonance)
50 series: mellow deep sound; (quieter than 40 series).
Delta Flow: Mild performance sound (the quietest).
And yes, I have all these tidbits memorized
No...its pretty much verbatim out of Jeg's. Wish I could help out more with other muffler brands.

30-series... that's the one!
[edit] don't you hate it when your looking for a car and finally decide on which one to get (GTA) then all of a sudden another car just decides to pop up in your face and make you rethink the whole situation? Damn Buick GN'S

well, i really like my flowmaster force II catback (30 series muffler). id describe it exactly as what you said you wanted. however, i bet we do have different setups...so i cant promise you the same results. i would look into the flowmaster force II catback and hooker catback. you probably would be pleased with either one.

At idle or cruising the Hooker has a nice rumble, and sometimes cruising no sound almost at all.
But when getting on it, it comes to life.

according to flowmaster, the 50 series is louder...ill check their site real quick and edit this if im wrong, but im pretty sure on that
edit: it didnt say on their site. i believe those charts reflect tone and not sound level. i couldnt find the image i was looking for. i think it must have been on the box for the flowmaster muffler that i got.

My Dynomax is the Super Turbo (not just any ordinary Turbo ) and it's pretty quiet.
You can clik on the link in my sig. Ignore the one that's labeled "Dynomax-3" (actually it's also "Dynomax-2") That one I reved the snot out of which causes the muffler to pop like a glasspack. I can assure you it only does this while reving it above 4K in nuetral. Under load I never get that sound.

I brought the Dynomax turbo thinking I would get the performance minus the loud sound but for some reason It's loud as heck, I even set off alarms. If I had a V8 I would not mind. I got tired of the loud exhaust fast.

I have an edelbrock 5109, which is fairly nice, i get a few compliments on the sound of my car.I just bought a Flowmaster 80-Series which, based on the charts on the flowmaster site, is more aggressive in tone than the 30 series (check out their site and look in bottom right corner for tone chart)
What I've read on their site..seems to go like this in order of most aggressive aside from what has been implied by the flowmaster tech and their site graph about the tone of the 80 series.
(80-series goes first?)
40 series
50 series
30 series
the rest i was too lazy to look at.
I have a question, my Edelbrock #5109 has a bit longer casing than the new 80-series FM (crossflow) ...I wanted to get a more aggressive sound to compliment my 91's body. By installing the 80-series, will I take a step forward...or back?
