Can the A.I.R. tubes be capped?

I just got some super comp shorties from jethot but they have the a.i.r. bungs already welded in... I am removing my emissions crap though, so can this be capped or do I have to send them back and request them without a.i.r. tubes? I swear I am having the worst streak of luck, I can't wait til someone tells me that this can't be done...

well, you can cap them, but it is going to look like a$$. i had my edelbrocks capped and they looked terrible. i used a brass cap from a plumbing store.

have you installed them yet? if not, i would call jet hot and just be honest with them..tell them you ordered the wrong ones and see if they will agree to retun them. i dont see why they wouldn't.

you will be MUCH happier with the headers without the air tubes. i switched to SLPs without AIR and the look WAYYYYYYYY better than with the tubes sticking out.

Just got them in the mail today, they look awesome, I sure would hate messing up that beautiful finish. I'm going to have to call jethot in the morning I guess *SIGH*

A.I.R. stands for "air injection reaction." When you first start the car when cold, the ECM is in open loop, and the flow from the smog pump is routed to the A.I.R. tubes on the exhaust manifolds/headers - providing additional oxygen to help react any unburnt fuel coming out of the cylinders.
As the engine warms up, the ECM goes to closed loop, meaning the O2 sensor starts providing feedback to the ECM so the mixture ratio can be adjusted, reducing wasted gas and reducing bad emissions. In closed loop, the smog pump flow is shut off to the manifolds/headers, and routed instead to the cat to provide that extra oxygen to assist the cat in it's job of converting bad gases to more tolerable gases.

If you only ran your car when warm (i.e., never shut it off), the tubes to the manifolds/headers wouldn't be necessary.

It depends on the county and on whether or not your mechanic inspects the car visually very throughly. You are SUPPOSED to have all the emissions equipment but then it's not always necessary...
