Flamethrowers

Ok, Ok, don't rip me a new one for posting this. I know its a bit dated but I think it would be really cool to have flamethrowers on my Camaro. So how do you do it? I remember someone used to have a kit to do it but I don't think any flamethrower setup will work on a car with a cat and I have to keep mine . Won't any unburned charge ignite in the cat? Hey, I'm gettin' a cat-back and a cut-out too so I'm not a total loss .

2 ways to do it. Full straight pipe (no muffler, no cat) with small diameter pipe. This keeps velocity high. You then run the engine very righ with lots of fuel and put some sparkplugs near the exaust outlet to light the raw fuel up. This is the old school way to do it.

New way has propane sprayed into the exaust with sparkplug or something to light it off.

Well, you gotta remember to not melt the rubber bumper on the rear of your Camaro. It would be cool though.

YEAH! Someone else thinks their cool! Anyway, your right about the bumper, when I get my cat-back setup I wanna get some tips like FiReBReTHa's and make sure they extend out just enough to keep flames away from the cover, might fab some little heat shields too. But I'm getting carried away, I'm still not exactly sure how to do this.

Kind of like AFTERBURNERS! You could even set it up to use the stubby BBQ propane cans, or the narrow torch ones. All in the name of weight.

Yeah Ok, I hadn't thought about those little bottles, thats a good idea. But I'm still not sure how to do it. Obviously, I need a way to switch the gas on/off without walkin back to the trunk. No way I'm paying for one of those nitrous bottle openers for this. Wiring up some plugs would be easy, probably should weld fittings to the exhaust pipes. What kind of lines should I use to pump propane into the pipes? Hardline will probably crack. I'm going to build a little box to contain the bottle, venting it outside the car ( maybe I'll hide in the "glove box" ). I want to work out a way to do this cheaply and safely- don't want to turn my car into a bomb! However, BBQ pedestrians and wildlife are not my problem hehe.

"Full straight pipe (no muffler, no cat) with small diameter pipe"

A freind of mine's suburban had a true dual setup like this, 2" pipe with nothing but glasspacks, and even exiting behind the rear wheels it'd shoot about 5-6 inch flames out the tips when he'd rev it real high and let off. It didn't do this at first, just after about 2 months when the 'packs wore in, or out depending how you look at it. Also you could only see it at night.

if you do it without the propane, you can't just run it rich, you need to have a carburetor, a manual choke and something to ignite the plugs, I've seen grill ignitors before. (your car can't be equipped with a catalytic converter to do this either.) you rev the motor up and pull the choke and then hit the ignitor, thus- flames out the back, as you can imagine its kinda rough on the motor, the gas kinda washes down the cylinder walls, and leaves deposits on the plugs- other than that its really cool.

SWEET! I'm gettin' one of those kits for fuel injected cars. Their only $80! Anybody have one of these kits installed, the website says that they are complete but they still don't say how they work ( but claim it doesn't effect computer or cat ). I wanna find out how they work before buyin' one.

That last idea is dangerous. I wouldn't run fuel in any flex line for more than 12" besides. Have fun putting out the fires.
Just thought I'd make this easy for you guys with TBI: Rig a cable, door lock solinoid or something to the TPS sensor. If you flip it without moving the throttle blades the ecm will pumpshot and you'll run rich. Play with it and you can get it to run rich enough to make flames. You could rig a quick switch that bypasses the TPS sensor so the ecm sees WOT, you guys get the idea. It's what I plan on doing.

He'll blow up a Ford not a total loss. But should still stop your friend from trying that. Cough up the money and buy the kit, $80 beats a trip to the hospital.

I saw a T/A that has flames running from the manifold all the way through the pipes. Looked really cool, but I don't think it was the effect he was going for. For some strange reason, he was dumping fuel straight into the manifold.

This is my plan to do it for under $50:
Use my old undercar neon (crap) power inverter which is 9000v, plenty to jump the spark plug gap in a tail pipe. With that hooked up to switch I can flip it on and off real easy. I'll just tap into my crappy tailpipe with the spark plug, no problems with leaks since it's after the muffler.
Then I'll rig some sort of old manual choke cable from a junkyard or old bicycle to flip the TPS sensor on my holley TB unit. I could probably just design some circuit but that would be too expensive. I'm going for cost here and all this is free for me since I already have the neon power inverter .

My exhaust pipes exit on the sides before my rear tires. Do you think if I got this kit, it would do any damage to my tires or anything of that matter?

i'm glad to see that they offer kits for this, YEAH!!! hopefully i'll throw on a set, and post pics.
