Hooker worth the extra $$$ over SLP??
Hooker worth the extra $$$ over SLP??
Just have a quick simple question... are the Hooker Super Comp headers worth the extra money than the SLP's?? I am not worried about having a Y-pipe fabricated if i get the Hooker as i am going with a true dual setup (no emission testing in Michigan)
Btw, what are some manufacturers of good X-pipes and would i really benefit from having one installed or just having two seperate tubes??
Im planning on having the hooker super comps, the x-pipe possibly, no cat, and two race mufflers (moroso maybe) dumping at the axle... tell me what you guys think...thanks!

Hooker more expensive than SLP, I thought the SLP headers were way more expensive. Jegs has the supercomp for $370.

In total the hookers will cost you a LOT more than the SLPs. The hookers super comp long tubes will scrape on just about everything... They're better for TRACK ONLY.
Then you fab your own y pipe or get a mufflex y and 4". I ordered the slp 1 3/4" headers. I'm going to get top gun coatings in Calgary alberta to coat them for 100 some canadian. 75 american. they've got some issues but they can be fixed.
Also X pipes are for TRUE Dual exhaust cars

What is going on with this new $100 business?
yeah i figured the hooker would cost a bit more...but as far as flow rates/performance are the hooker worth the extra bucks??
And i wont have to worry about fabbing a y-pipe as i will be doing a true dual setup, thus the need for an x-pipe...any recommendations for one??
and exactly how much lower are the hooker super comp's than slp's??
One last question... how do the hooker long tube and shorties compare to each other??
Thanks

SLP's come in 1 5/8" and 1 3/4" sizes, and are awesome headers. I have no experience with Hooker long tubes, but I've heard great things about them for race cars.

Hey buddy, I am doing almost the same setup. I'm using SLP shorties and car-sound cats, so I only have room for an H--that way I don't have to cut the floor pans.
For a good X, go with dr. gas (www.drgas.com). I've had them recommended to me by people who know their stuff. Plus, look on the site for who uses dr. gas.
Only problem is that you need to know where to put the crossover. I have heard that an H should go as close to the collectors as possible (although this is illegal if you are emmisions tested). I have also heard to put the H twice the length of the headers (port flange to collecter along the pipes) away from the ports--so the length of the header away from the collector.
I have also heard (most commonly) that for any crossover, put in your system with no crossover first. Then either spray lacquer or draw heavy crayon lines along the pipes, back from the collectors. Run the engine for a for a while and see how far back the lacquer or crayon line burns off. Where it stops, put the crossover. This is fine for an H, but you would waste a lot of pipe with an X. Sorry, buddy, don't know what else to tell you.
Personally, I think $100 is pretty steep. If I had had room to use an x, I would have first (I was going to do this, but decided not to modify the floor) tried to fab one from two mandrel u-bends. Just cut out the area where they would intersect and weld them together. 2 bends (hooker bends from summit) cost about $36.

In a recent post someone said that shorties really just increase flow which is a big improvement because the stock manifolds are so bad but that, in addition to increasing flow, long tubes are also tuned which is a whole lot better etcetera.

Here's my Hooker SC/LT setup. I never scrape on the road unless I am totally reckless on hilly back roads or parking lot speed bumps. These Hookers sound and perform awesome!! My car sounds like a NASCAR late model or a Grand American modified!! Check it out.........
