3" intermediate with a dynamax bullet

who's done it? I'm thinking of buying a 3" intermediate pipe, running it through a single 3" dynamax bullet muffler and tucking the tailpipe up high on the driver side where it won't be noticable.

Option 2 is to run the bullet muffler closer to the front (similiar to a loudmouth), and split to dual tail pipes.

Option 3 is just to buy a 3" catback.

I don't know what option I want yet. Option 1 would be the cheapest, and can be a complete DIY install. All I'd have to do is tack a hanger on the tailpipe. Option 2 would be the coolest, but not something I could do myself. The expense would probably push me over option 3 which would be just as good for all intents and purposes.

Right now I've got a 2.5" dynamax catback and not only is the car way too quiet, I'm sure the tiny exhaust isn't helping my performance any.

Any opinions? Anybody running a single 3" bullet muffler?

I'm running 3" exhaust from the headers back. I don't have a cat or anything but I have a single 3" dynomax muffler and a single tailpipe on the drivers side. Very loud and meaty sound. I can send you pictures if you want. I haven't figured out how to put them on the post yet.

anybody else have any ideas?

I can't possibly be the first person in the universe to dream up this type of exhaust.

Car: yy wife, crazy.
Engine: 350, Vortecs, 650DP
Transmission: TH-350
Axle/Gears: 8.5", 3.42
intermediate pipe - 44063 Front I pipe & 43248 OA I pipe
ultraflow muffler- 17227
RH tailpipe - 43243
LH tailpipe - 43244

That muffler is 3" in/ two 2.5" out and will flow 940 cfm; enough to support 427 'loss free' HP.

The 'loss free' part means that no HP will be lost because of restriction from the muffler.

Just a suggestion. Since you already have the tailpipes from your existing Dynomax, just swap them over to the new muffler.

Oh... and the muffler is ~$100 thru Summit, but there's a $25 rebate right now.

Thanks for the idea. Those 2 intermediate pipes were what I was considering, but I think I'd rather use a bullet muffler. Although the flow potential doesn't matter, it's MUCH cheaper, plus will give a more agressive tone.

Yup..... having to wear earplugs in your own car would be an aggressive tone alright.

Which bullet muffler where you thinking of using? I'm going to be doing a similar change soon and I'd like some ideas also.

I was also considering the 17233 Ultra Flow for the same reason as you. I want it to sound more aggressive tone, but I want it tolerable on the street. The larger chamber of the oval mufflers should do that more so than the bullet mufflers.

I don't know. I'd have to hear each one on my car to be able to tell for sure. I know Justin (can't remember his entire logon name) has the 17227 and has posted a sound clip. IMO, It sounds GOOD.

That's the problem. It's impossible to tell until you hear it. Bullets are cheap enough and there's enough people that seem to want them that if I don't like it, I can get rid of it and only lose a couple bucks. If I dump $100 on a muffler that I don't like and can't sell, I lose more money.

Plus I drive the car so infrequently that I think I can be more tolerant of the noise, especially if it sounds good.
