Open shorties? Could be either one. Check timing, check firing order, hook up exhaust...

do you have anything hooked to the headers?

Check timing and make sure no plug wirs are crossed.

well i checked the wires and they are all on correctly. Im thinking that my timing is off coz im runnin too rich, when i had my exhaust on i was getting fumes comin out the pipes. I dunno if thats it but at least i found out that my wiring is good.

check your spark plugs. They might be fouled. If you are running rich like you said, then there is a chance that one of the plugs is fouled.

That's okay, a car running rich can waste no time fouling up plugs.

Put go ahead and fix the timing as that's alittle easier than doing plugs, right??

Backfire through the carb, or backfire out the exhaust? If its through the carb, you timing is probably retarded. Also, make sure non of the ends of the wires have been torn loose.
