hey guys, please help out with this exhaust ?

allright, my friend just finished swaping a 85 l98 out of a vette into his 84 z28. right now he is just running open y pipe off of his slp 1 3/4" headers. he really wants an exhaust system but wants all 3" pipe (over the axle and everything) he was just going to buy a muffler and have a local shop weld in the 3" pipe. they told him that the 3" pipe would rub on his axle and vibrate and it wouldn't fit. i don't know what to tell him to do? he really wants a 3" magnaflow catback but he doesn't think it will fit now. is this really a problem on the 84 models? thanks guys

3" cat-back systems which are 3" over the axle to the muffler are very common. Even JC Whitney sells one.

With a cat and cat-back to match the application for the SLPs, it's no problem.

he wants to run without a cat and just run a 3" catback from his 3" ypipe on his headers. so will any thirdgen 3" catback fit?

thanks

Pretty much. He'll just have to adapt a piece of pipe to go between the y-pipe & I-pipe where the cat would normally go.

It will fit no problem. I just fitted 2 1/2" duals and I had no clearace problems. Took some time tough, but single 3" will fit without hesitation.

I have dual 3" pipes over the axle. No rubs here.

I havent got any pics yet, but when I do, I will post them. It's pretty much the same as the 3" pics above, just different mufflers, or rather resonators
