i dont like the sound of my camaro with flowmaster cataback system!

hi. i have an 87 camaro 305 and i really dont like the sound that is comin out of the camaro especially when i have the flowmaster catback system. and yes i do have a high performance catalyic converter on there but i need it for legal reasons. and some camaros that i see have the catalyic converter on and it sounds like a damn hot rod almost. please help me in this. here are some ideas i thought that might help.
GET FROM SUMMIT RACING:
1) choose loud or really loud from summit stainless stell mufflers 24" long smooth tube muffler for the deep aggressive tone or 30" long chambered muffler for the 60's nostalgic aggressive more deeper sound all mufflers with straight tubing and packing.
2)bigger flowmaster series muffler
3)something with resenators with the muffler(dont know what that is so someone help me on that)
4) borla muffler
5)flow tech muffler that says bite me on the front(dont know how good it is on sound?)
6)WARLOCK street and stripe muffler with bypass cap for the street or racing use.
7)THRUSH GLASS PACK MUFFLERS
please help me on this guys cause i dont want to get stuck with the wrong muffler or setup. oh and if you want i posted a topic about my car getting a new engine for it and that explains alot about the car in MOTOR SWAP TOPIC. and yes my car does have hedman headers since i havent mentioned that so you know. i need serious opinions and answers. thanks guys:hail: :hail: :hail:

I prefer the Flow sound to the Warlock, personally. Besides, the uncapping feature of the Warlocks wouldn't do much good in the stock muffler location.

The Flow sound will grow on you. I didn't think much of it at first, either. And, it will probably sound better with a modified engine than it does with the stock engine.

FWIW, it's hard to get that "60's nostalgic aggressive" sound through a single pipe. And, even back then, that sound typically changed when you had an engine that actually performed.

I can attest to the sounding a lot better with a more powerful engine thing. I've had my Flowmaster catback ever since I bought the car. With a 350 it sounded okay... then I added heads... cam... carb.... etc etc it sounded even better. Now that I have a bigger engine (400) and a pretty rad setup it sounds unbelievable!

i like the sound of the flowmaster catback on my car, but since you dont like the sound from your car....id suggest trying a hooker aerochamber muffler. ive heard several clips from 305s with cats, and they all sounded good. they definitely dont sound like flowmasters. ill see if i can find a thread im remembering that had a few hooker catback sound clips on it....

edit: alright, heres one link i found. theres probably some other clips out there, but this has a few. link to sound clips

sounds good!

i just wanted to say yes im getting a 350 performer but just to let you guys know again that i have hedman headers with a high performance catalyic converter and 3" mandrel bent pipe but i need to know what muffler suites this best to my needs and should i just for the hell of it while im gettin a new muffler should i get dual exhaust.....abviously its not true dual but looks good and might sound better?

this is what im thinkin of goin with:
1) hooker aero chamber and maxium flow mufflers dual outlet
2)warlock street and strip
3)thrush glass pack mufflers
4)stick with flow master but with dual outlets

i forgot to mention that im assuming that compression, amount of exhaust gases flowing threw, and back pressure also have to do with the making of the sound i guess? just thought i ask? what be the best to got with on the muffler? i can afford two buy two with no problem so help me pick and choose to your best of knowledge. thanks again guys!:hail: :hail: :hail:

Which Flowmaster muffler do you have on there now? The one I've got is 3" in, dual-opposite 2-1/2" out, stock-replacement type. It probably sounds different that a single-outlet type.

I don't know of any way to give you advice on this. What you're asking for is subjective. Who would be willing to guarantee that you will like the sound that they like?

FWIW, I picked mine based on something that would support the performance I was shooting for, and would fit in the car/system w/o modification. How it sounded was not on my decision list. I would have preferred something a little quieter.

american thunder force II catback system

five7kid.......well thats what i have an american thunder flowmaster force II catback system. im sure its a good system that i have but ill change the muffler to dual outlets at least.

also my engine is old and the engine compression for air is not strong for some reasons like maybe leaky gaskets and also my fuel system is a little sloppy like if the car isnt getting enough gas so maybe thats why im not getting that sound cause gas mixtures that go into the exhaust create that certain sound i think anyway but like you said sound isnt everything its really performance and im putting in the holley fuel pump over the weekend. thats gonna be a bitch cause the fuel pump is located in the fuel tank oh well. ill stick with the flowmaster system and just change to another flowmaster muffler with dual exhaust outlets and wait on the 350 performance engine i want and see what happins and thanks alot and to the rest of the guys!:hail:

I used the Walker/Dynomax Ultraflow welded 3" before my current one in the sig. Sounded real deep even with a hi flow cat.
Here's the part#s that no one seems to be able to find:
I-pipe front 44063
I-pipe rear 43248
muffler 17227
Tailpipes 43243 & 43244

well thats what i have an american thunder flowmaster force II catback system.
flowmaster makes 2 catbacks for 3rd gens, american thunder and force II. the force II is the single outlet and american thunder is the dual outlets. there is no "american thunder flowmaster force II catback system."

hooker aero chamber and maxium flow mufflers dual outlet
these are also 2 different things. the hooker aerochamber muffler and the hooker maximum flow muffler. you want the hooker aerochamber if you liked the sounds in that link. now someone can correct me if im wrong here, but i think the hooker aerochamber with dual outlets to fit a 3rd gen correctly (made to mount transversely with an outlet on each side) is only available with the hooker catback.

if youre changing from the force II catback to the dual outlet flowmaster muffler (80 series used in american thunder catback), expect it to be louder. good choice sticking with flowmaster
