thoughts on the headman 1 7/8"

i am looking at building a mean procharged 355. i will be using the d-3 procharger with cog drive with a set of the jegs 215 heads/ or comparable heads. i need somthing that will flow really well and was wondering if the 1 7/8" would be too much or if i should go with the hooker 1 3/4". any and all input appreciated.

1 5/8 is supposed to support up to 400 hp. How much are you expecting to make?

well, a d-3 procharger max horsepower is 1800, i am hoping to put out between 700-800 at the wheels.

this is why i was wondering if i should go with the 1 7 /8, not the 1 5 /8, they are extremely expensive though. we're talking like $532.99 plus coating. i was wondering if it would be overkill though and if the 1 3/4 would be sufficient.

dat a lot of HP, lol

I can't help ya though. I think 1 7/8 would be better, but that's just a guess.

1 5/8 is good or 400 fwhp
1 3/4 let's say 600 fwhp
that's no where near what you expect

thanks, i was just at jim-powski.com which does a lot of procharged vehicles and fabrications and they can weld me up headers too, so maybe i will talk to him at the next nmca event, since that is the racing organization my dad works for.

dont waste your time with 1 3/4

go with th 1 7/8.....someone will say that youll loose lown end power with the bigger headers, but i think you could loose a few pounds down low...unless you just wanna do burnouts lol

Youll be losing a lot with 1 7/8's..With that kind of power you should be looking at 2" or bigger at least

I think you can get by with larger primaries with force induction and especially with nitrous, I have no experience here but i'd say go with the 1 7/8" headers.

I was intersted in the Hedman 1 7/8 x3 1/2 collector headers but Hedman told me ONLY for automatics, and will not fit Firebirds because according to him they use differant size control arms. Never heard that one before! W/E I run a Lakewood scatter shield and I really don't want to use a 1 3/4 header and any suggestions would be much appreciated. Price would not dictate my selection.
As an FYI (CHP Aug 03') John Meaney's 1300hp twin turbo vette uses 1 3/4 merged collector headers. Maybe turbo cars need the smaller dia. to help velocity and ward off turbo lag.

yeah, but this is an in your face supercharger, so i think i will go with 1 7/8" i will be utilizing a built th350 from my buddy over at West Racing Transmissions so i will be ok on the clearance issues. this is getting to be expensive.

Who did you say is going to build your headers? $$?
I was looking at those Sainless Works headers for "SBC Under chassis" but their web site does not give any more info than that.
There was also a company called Quick time performance that is working on a set of large LT -1 headers for 4th gen, Not sure of the spelling, Ed Quay makes 3rd gen large SBC headers.

I'd say 2" would be good too.. better than the 1 7/8"

You'll have alot of fun putting 2" headers on though

They are almost impossible to get bolted onto a sbc

I'd definately spend the extra cash and get a set custom made. With those not-so-custom brands your going to have to cut up a lot of crap to get them to fit.
