questions about Hooker 2055

i heard they are very good headers. i have the LO3. it's pretty quick but i still want alittle more power. i'm think like 250 would be good for me. 170hp stock and i heard with them headers you should be probably over 200hp. i was thinking the edelbrock tes headers cause they'll give you the most ground clearance. now my questions:

1. how is the ground clearance on them?
2. since the headers aren't like the edelbrock ones.. where would you buy the Y pipe to connect the 2 headers? or would you run dual pipes?
3. if you make the Y pipe to connect the 2 headers so they go into one pipe.. like i want does anyone here make them themselves? my father can bend pipe and make them fit.. so does people with these headers make/buy a Y pipe? or do they run them duals?

my car is very low.. i have 205/60/15 in the front and 215/60/15 in the rear.. so the front does sit alittle lower then the back, and it's pretty damn low already.

thanks guys

Ground clearance will be fine, and if you have any problems hooker customer service will fix it for you for free. The 2055's come with a y pipe, and a very good one at that.

Type in "HOK-2055" in the "Enter Summit Part#" field on the left.

A direct-fit cat such as CTO-9118 would also be a good idea. The connection to the cat-back may need to be modifed, but that's easy enough. The 2055 y-pipe won't fit up to your cat, anyway, and this is a much better piece which will fit the y-pipe directly.

To get up to 250 HP, you're going to have to lose those LO3 heads and cam. LB9-type heads (factory or aftermarket such as World Castings S/R Torquer 305's) and a nice computer-compatible upgrade cam will get you there.

If you have questions about ground clearence with the 2055's, read this thread.

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=185873

Other than the y-pipe being too low, I think the Hooker 2055's are about the best headers out there for the 1 5/8" tube diameter. The design of the y-pipe (other than being too low) is probalby the best out there. And there were no fitment problems with the headers themselves unlike the SLP headers that hit the steering shaft. Hooker is going to warranty my y-pipe, and when I get the new one from jet hot, I'll post in the thread below and let everyone know if that solved the problem or not.

And if you are wondering if you should get coated headers or not, read this article that appeared in car craft's Aug. 2002 issue. If this doesn't convince you to get coated headers, nothing will. And, by the way, after reading the article, I purchased coated headers from jet-hot.

Don't believe the Summit picture (it's "representative", or something like that). The headers come with the y-pipe.

Porting TBI heads is a very nice way to dispose of excessive time and money.

I put them on my car. I took out the cat, so I just got a pipe welded in place. Little bit of a pain to get in, did it myself. Ground clearenss, Y pipe is a little low, but I have had little problems with it. Watch your oil dipstick, I no longer have one. I can't get my broken one out of the motor!! One last thing, have fun with the #7 spark plug. I had to custom a plug socket to make it easy to get in or out. I would do it again, just a little different on the install!!

When it is said that ground clearance is low is that at stock ride height? Would it be better with 17s and stock height springs?

Great headers, I am very pleased.

But my y pipe sits much higher then MetalliCamaroRS's Atleast that is what it seems to me? I snapped a pic of mine...
