i cant decide what headers i want
i cant decide what headers i want
Im gonna be putting a 383 in my car and want some nice headers. I dont want air tubes and i dont want somethin i will have clearance issues with as far as being to low to the ground. I have hotchkis springs and was thinkin most long tubes might scrape alot but i dunno. Any oppinions????
well your best bet not to sacrafice ground clearance is shorties, and you want the biggest shortes made. If price dont mean a thang, then SLP is the way to go. they make 1 3/4 headers with and with out y pipe. they are stainless and you can get them coated. they are expensive. very. Also there are clearance issues with the steering shaft. Im sure MD will be in here to show you his "mod" he had to make to the primary to get them to fit in. They look good and will fit your application great. good luck and nice car!
Thanx slp's seem like they r on the top on my list so far if the steering shaft is the only thing i have to worry about . I also have hotchkis sfc's tho i had to remove a lil over and ich on my edelbrocks to fit.The y pipe that is went over to far and hit the sfc. Also i will be installing new motor mounts so that might help the steering shaft clearance.

I am very pleased with my SLP headers. They are a little pricey now. SLP keeps raising their prices on them.

I like my SLPS, too and the Jet-Hot coating on them, even though they're pricey. And I'll make one recommendation - if you have a problem with the steering shaft - try first to move it. I chose to carefully dent the #3 primary, didn't do a bad job, IMO, but it shouldn't have been my first solution. Oh, well...

As i see it one tube dented isnt a big deal i wouldnt worry about it. Our engine comparments r pretty tight im surprised they even fit long tubes on our cars. Also i think im gonna get the coated ones and i think the y-pipe comes un coated right. Which is good cause ill prob need to shorten it so it dont hit the sfc's. Then ill send it out to get coated.
