catalytic convertor = fire?

How close can a catalytic convertor be to the floor boards before it causes a fire (without heat shields)?

I have a Mufflex y-pipe with dual cats and it awfully close to the floor boards. The driver's side pipe routes under the trans crossmember, goes through a cat and then comes together around 2 feet after the trans crossmember.

I know I should get the fuel and brake lines out of the way and I will but the cat is about 1" or less from the floor pan. Should I be worried about that?

i hardly doubt that the car will catch fire. the floor pan is made out of similar materials as the cat. your passengers feet may get a little warm but i wouldn't worry about any spontanious combustion.

I don't think you have to worry about a fire.
