Modify exhaust flange?

Are there any advantages or disadvantages of cutting the exhaust flange on normal headers so they would be like SLP or MAC flanges(not connected)? Here is what I mean.

Most headers
-o---oo---o-

Modified flange
-o- -oo- -o-

Cutting them like that would help if your header flange is tweaked enough to where you're having a hard time getting your headers to seal.

Never done it before, but I've seen it done enough times.
I can see how it might help if your flanges aren't straight enough to seal, but the only possible negative I can think of is this: Are the flanges thick enough that the "ears" won't bend when you tighten the bolts? Just a thought...

They're hooker super comp shorty headers so I think the flange is thick enough. Anyone got any pics? I am very seriously considering doing this.

It's time to make the decision. Should I do it or not? Also, which gaskets should I use?

I can't see that you have anything to lose by trying it. You won't ruin your headers by cutting the flanges, it just might not solve your problem. Or maybe it will.
As for the gaskets, if I had to pick one I'd probably go with a dead-soft aluminum set.
Good Luck.

I don't really have any problem. I guess I should have said that before. Everything seals fine, but I just thought it might free up a little more room in the engine bay, plus I think it looks better that way. I noticed the mac headers and the slp's are like that so I thought what the hell. I think I'm gonna go ahead and do it. Like you said, it shouldn't cause any problems. I was just wondering is anyone else has experience with this and maybe could tell me if you thought it was a good idea or not. Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.
