$ spent on exhaust, left with a bad feeling

I really needed it but still.. was expencive and $ doesnt seem to come around like that as much as I would like it. Getting the exhaust system done for me wasnt about more HP at all, just about setting the car up to breath and to sound nice. lol my friend told me I would $h!t my pants with the 40hp increase, heh yea whatever. Sure it pulls a little better and you can feel it a bit but its nothing big.

Edelbrock headers= 300
Vortex catback exhaust sys (made by cherry bomb)= 4-500 installed

7-800= fixed hole in old exhaust by replacement

ok.. now she is ready to breath.. now what? lol Its not that big of a difference cept for the sound, which isnt all that loud but its not the exhaust's fault, its the motor. I keep thinking... what if I got the vortec heads instead.. more power? would I not feel like I droped such a big chunk of change for a small bit or horse and a sound? ehh.. oh well.. still it had a hole in it. Anybody else spend a load of cash on an exhaust system and wasnt quite satisfied with it?

Matt.. I know it won't make you feel any better but, I had actually hoped that your exhaust would have worked out better for you than it actually did.
I may be off on this but, the way to get the car to respond a little faster to the exhaust change is to disconnect the battery to reset the ECM. When you just bolt on something and expect a 'wow' change, it's most likely not going to happen untill there is a bit of driving done and the ECM makes it's adjustments from choking stock to actually being able to breathe via o2 readings. Resetting the ECM makes it start from it's base tables and make the adjustments a little quicker. As stated in my sig tho..

Yeah, I've got some money in my exhaust, (Jet-Hot coated SLPs w/install kit, Hooker catback, Stage-8 bolts, and misc) but I knew that by itself, exhaust wouldn't make a big performance change on my LO3. I believe your car would benefit from heads, cam, intake, etc., but I'd shoot for the 400 if you're serious.
That's why my LO3 is still untouched - I have better things in mind.

You didn't mention the catalytic converter. Maybe its time for a new high flow one. I'm not trying to throw salt on the open sore, but maybe the cat is old and kind of restrictive.

Also, your exhaust changes will probably bolt right up to the future 400!

Good Luck

Engines work best as a system, the exhaust is simply another piece of that system. I know it is a little unnerving to drop a bunch of money on something with high expectations and then be let down. However, you can be rewarded in the long run should you go further with engine work to complement what you are trying to do...Move more air into AND out of your engine. That makes power, provided the other variables are considered, fuel, compression, spark, tune...

It'll pay off in the long run...

My exhaust:
Hooker Long Tubes, coated, $400 IIRC
Mufflex 4" Catback $525
Custom Y pipe $200 (exhaust shop modified entire system and welded)

I picked up my set of 2210 LTs with ceramic coating and Mufflex 3.5" back with custom 3" y-pipe gently used for 400$ cash. Its real nice when the performance *** smiles down on you or when rich folk decide to go twin turbo and sell their parts to the first poor fool with a few bucks in his pocket, aka me.

slp catback, slp coated 1 3/4 headers, no cats.

it has a nice sound, but i knew since i have a stock engine i wouldnt see much improvement, but i had the same attitude towards my suspension, i was making a platform to make traction and to breath good when the engine mods start coming.
