super comp vs. comp
Alright you guys had me convinced on the hooker super competition headers (hok-2055 as they're commenly refered too here) for my 89 tbi. However upon flipping through my summit catalogue the other day i found hooker competition headers (2460). Now i know they arent as good as the super comps but they're about $150 less, so i'm just wondering if anyone knows of any issues with this set of headers. Are they good headers, keep in mind this car will likely never make over 325 hp.

long tubes on a TBi motor is WAAAY overkill. You'll lose torque and not gain anything over shorty headers gauranteed. Go with Hedman shorties, they have a 3inch collector like the hookers and you can buy a y pipe for them much cheaper. I think its like $99 for the headers, $99 for the y pipe. I have the hedman's on my girlfriends T/a. Very similar to the comps.

how was the install on w/ the headman headers? ive heard horrer stories about how the're a pain in the neck to fit in the car. Where as ive heard that the only issue with the hookers is the oil dipstick. Does anyone know for sure if the hooker comps for $150 comes w/ the y pipe, or if they're 3 inch collecters. or should i just avoid all the bs and go w/ the 2055's?

The Hooker Comp 2460 does not have a Y pipe available for it.You will have to fab a Y pipe or dual exhaust. The Hooker 2055 headers include a Y pipe that fits very well ,you add your choice of cat back exhaust [ including cat] and your done.

do it once and do it right, my thoughts exactly. One more quick question, since we're on the topic of doing things right, summit has an option to get the hookers ceremic coated for about $180, should i get them coated like that, or send them to a third party company like jet-hot, or should i not bother with coating them at all? One more thing, does the hooker y-pipe come pre drilled for the o2 sensor or do i have to do that, and if so, how do you drill a y pipe?

I have the comps and no they don't make a y-pipe for them so I'm running true duals. If you get them DO NOT get the coating from Hooker, I got it and not even a year later it has all chipped off the bottom of the collectors. The primaries are fine, but it's all come off the bottom. Get Jet-Hot and it won't peel like the cheap hooker stuff. Don't get me wrong, hooker makes good headers and exhasut products, but they can't coat they're headers worth anything...

I looked around on jet hot and cant seem to find prices for coating, anyone have a guess at how much it would cost to coat some 2055's, i wouldnt need to do the ypipe too would i?

They actually sell the 2055's directly already coated. I have a catalog and will look it up for you tomorrow, but it should be on their website. I wouldn't worry about coating the y-pipe.
