You should pass without any problems. Make sure your car is nice and hot before you go but you shouldn't have any problems as long as you have a cat. Now as for a visual inspection I have no idea. We just have sniffer here.

You should keep the air tubes connected to the cat so your converter will work in a 3-way manner. Else you'll prolly fail.

The air tubes to your headers/manifolds are for warm up closed loop purposes only, and shouldn't effect most modern emissions tests.

And a lot of new cars don't have air tubes on the manifolds, nor did some F-body's (pulsair) and I doubt your inspector knows which did and didn't.

You still should pass. I know plenty of people that have heads and cammed LO3's with EGR delete and a horrible tune that have passed. The only thing they had was a new cat.

You do need air to the cat for a 3-way cat to work properly though. A 2-way cat will not pass emissions on a modern test.

I used to run a Catco hi-flow cat and it had the air tube on it but never used and well i passed with flyin colors. and the cat was the only thing i had on my car for emmissions controls. You can pass with just a cat and no air tubes hooked up.

Well thats fine but your cat was only working as a 2 way. Your HC and Co2 were prolly low, but your NOX really high.

What was your specs?

My car ran 12.60 @ 110mph and I passed emissions better than a '03 civic with a 3-way cat.

NOx- standard is 1323, i passed with 1055
HC- standard is 173, i passed with 8
CO%- standard 1.63, i passed 0.00

that was this yrs.
with the edelbrock carb.

this is last yrs with a non-cc q-jet

NOx- standard is 1323, i passed with 219
HC- standard is 173, i passed with 11

There are a couple of issues here:
1) Functional. That's mostly what's being discussed here. The cat will work better with the A.I.R., no doubt about that. I see some people saying they passed without A.I.R. who have older cars - the standards do tighten with later years, so caution advised there.

2) Visual. A lot of places require the system for visual inspection. Even if the system isn't needed to pass sniffer, it may have to be there for this little technicality. Since you're running an open element air cleaner, I'd guess this isn't an issue for you. But, for many of us, it is.

Not every place has emmisions. My hometown does not so I do not have to worry. However, wherever I move after school most likely will so I keep my camaro's legal. E-Check is a big money maker here in the US. That is what it was created for. Most of them are privately owned. Out of all the vehicles on the roads (250+ million) today, 40% of all air pollutants are cause by them. Sure that is a lot but maybe they should focus on the other 60%.

I got a high-flow (flowmaster suposedly) aluminized cat today with NO air pipe. Once I verify its origins better, I might bolt it on my car to see how it works.. I'll throw it on the emissions dyno and let you guys no the difference compared to my air cat...
