Got a question but dont know where to post it

Well here is my question. When I start my car up in the morning I get a some white smoke coming out of the back of it and it only happens if it has been sitting for lets say a couple of hours like 4-5. Or even when I wake up in the morning. Now I just got this car and the dealership said it could be condensation in the exhaust pipes but I don't know and I have a feeling it may not be. Do you guys know what it could be? If so that would be great thanks

[ Note I got it from a dealership and still have the 30 day warranity from them so if anything is majorly wrong they have to do it free of charge. Also I got the 3 year warranity as well from them. ]

how much white smoke? does it stop after a little while? what is the outside temperature in your area when this happens? could be condensation which is normal, does the exhaust smell kinda sweet?

The white smoke stops after lets say 3-5 seconds. When I wake up and go out side the temp is about lets say anywhere from 55-65 [ I live in San Jose Cali]. I dont know about it smelling sweet. I havent started it up this morning so I will have to go find that out. yet it is quite a bit of white smoke but it does stop.

Probably your valve seals clinging on to the last bit of life they have left. My 'bird did the same thing (starting at 100k mi) and my camaro does it at nearly every startup now since I put the seals out of their misery one night
Pretty common problem for a sbc (at least any I've had or seen)with any signifiacant amount of milage on it.

yep, valve seals. can almost guarentee that is the problem. although, aside from the smoke, and slight oil loss, I don't think there is any danger to the engine in running like this (just check your oil every other week or so).

ok thanks for the help guys. I will go back to the dealership and tell those retards. The thing is I was leaking oil and they said it was the oil filter being lose but now that I read this. I am sure it is the valve seals. I washed my car just now and started it up and it sat for about 2 and a half hours as I washed it [ I know I like to take my time when I wash my baby]. I started it up and guess what boys? It happened again. Thanks for all the help now I wont have to pay for it the dealership will hhahahahahaha.....thanks

Deffinately valve seals. They dry up over time especially if the car sits for along periods of time. Mine does it really bad on a cold start up and she only has 35,000 miles. It goes away after a few seconds and oil consumption is minimal because the seals do swell a bit and stop any oil from getting in.
