What kind of hp are these 2.5 inch collectors costing me???
As most of you know, I recently sold my 84 Z in favor of a "GASP" fourth-gen that I could not resist.
Anywho it's got the following setup for the exhaust:
JBA headers 1 5/8 primaries, 2.5 inch collectors
SLP stainless Y pipe (either 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 in.)
Gutted stock cat
3 inch adlustable Borla System
Here's the thing, with this setup the car puts out 390 rwhp.
I didn't even know the collectors were 2.5 inch until I changed the gaskets!! I couldn't believe it, didn't make much sense to me at all why the guy didn't go with 3 inch.
I was just curious if anyone thinks it would be worth it for me to swap them out. I'll be getting a supercharger soon and want the least amount of restrictions possible, but the rest of the exhaust is staying the same, I like the sound. Also I don't have the cash to re-do the whole she-bang.
What do you guys think? Are the weenie collectors costing me 10 or more ponies at the crank????

No one?????
No one has any ideas??? For a thirdgen, I guess it would be the equivalent of switching from Edelbrocks to Hookers or something. But with 460 hp.

With that much hp, there is going to be a difference, especially with a blower since you will have a lot more exhaust gasses. I would say leave it the way it in until you have the money to replace it all and then do it. You will be losing some power, but it won't be like oyu're losing 50hp or anything like that, maybe more around 20-30 at the very most.

Is it an LT1 or LS1. If you are putting 390 at the wheels with those headers you will poo when you put long tubes on. I take it you have had the thing dynoed. Long tubes are the only way to go. 1 3/4" of course. I have seen sets of long tubes yield 26 at the wheels on LS1's. I would look into the Arizona Speed and Marine long tubes or the Hooker. Far superior to the JBA's. You could see 20hp and put you over the pattened 400rwhp fourthgen club. Check out camaroz28.com and see what those guys are running. I am getting AS&M when my wallet allows a massive dump in the LT1. By the way. don't count on this stayin open vary long. non-thirdgen.

About the thread being shut down, that would be kinda dumb because header science is header science whether we are talking fourth gen or whatever. There are thirdgens on the board with LT1's and LS1's in them so this post could easily benefit them as well.
Not directing that toward you BTW, just toward the board and moderaters because if it's really technical and involves a GM engine, the thread should stay open.

I would stay away from that stainless y-pipe that you saw in summit. I hear the fitment is horrible with it. You are better off with a kit that comes with a y-pipe or use the hooker y-pipe with their headers.

Or are you talking about supercomp shorties?????
I'd probably only change the headers if they'd get me over that 400rwhp mark, and I know longtubes would.

Jet hot is comming out with thier own y-pipe soon but Hooker does make an off road one. And this is for the long tubes, not shorties. Plus they come coated and are a better deal out of the box. The y-pipe is sold separately than the long tubes. The Jegs part number for the off road Hooker y-pipe is 520-16723, however this is for the LS1 version. I do not have the LTx version off hand. The y-pipe is included with the shorties not the longtubes.

So for about $700 bucks I sould be able to get at least 20rwhp. I can't wait.

The midlength headers for these cars have the really good y-pipes but you pay for it. QTP, FLP, Arizona Speed and Marine and a few others. Plus you have to get a reducer to attach it to your cat-back. No biggy but an extra expense. I would buy striaght from Jet hot. Same header, slightly better, and slightly cheaper. Now all you have to do is worry about ground clearance. In that case you still may want to look at some mid length set-ups, especially if you want a cat, clearnce and performace equal to true longtubes. Plus they have better collector flanges.

The y-pipe is 1XX more though but for 700 and some change you come out with the same thing as the hookers except for a better flange and alittle better fit, plus the great coating. All and all slightly cheaper but with more benifits.

Hang in there, I thought you knew.
You have to order them direct fom jet-hot. As for pricing you need to call them. They just now posted some of their stuff. You usualy have to call them.

Anyone else....
Does anybody else have any ideas on a longtube/y-pipe header combo for my car??? How bout the prices for the Jet Hot setup??? I might have time to call them tomarrow but if anyone knows, plese let me know. I am not exactly rollin' in the dough so the cheaper the better as far as coated and uncoated.
You guys think this will put me over the 400rwhp mark for sure???
After the Sfc's and the Torque arm, with 400hp at the wheels, you guys think I can run 11's pretty easily on 275/40's????
