Pace Setter Headers

Where's the cheapest place to buy these. Air, heater and y pipe are pretty cool. 2.5 inch restriction bad, but they are street legal.

Thanks

Hedman's are cheap too, you might want to check them out. They're a lot better quiality than the Pace Setters. 1 5/8" primaries vs 1 1/2" primaries, thicker tubing and flanges. The hedman setup is about $200 for the headers and y-pipe.

The $200 Hedman hedders & y-pipe are not technically "street legal", at least not from an emissions standpoint. You want "legal" Hedmans, they're over $300 like everyone else (TES, Hooker).

The only place I've seen offering Pacesetters is JC Whitney - $300 for painted, $450 ceramic coated. Summit carries other Pacesetter stuff, but I haven't seen the 3rd gen headers (might get them for you, though). Interestingly enough, Pacesetter's own website doesn't list 3rd gen V8 headers. Mostly compact, V6, & truck stuff.

2-1/2 years ago, when I was putting the parts together for my mods, I considered the Pacesetters. At that time, the ceramic coated were in the $300 range. I could never get a straight answer from JC Whitney or Pacesetter about the pipe size at the cat connection, so I went with the Hookers. No regrets (except I should have gotten them coated).

Hi found these pacesetter headers on ebay says they have 1 5/8 tubes and 3 inch collector. Wonder if the seller is correct.

"Buyer beware", or something like that.

No, he's wrong. And, if you get headers, you shouldn't get the ones that "fit" your car. Get the TPI style, and the cat/cat-back to match. TBI exhaust system is restrictive, and putting headers in front of it maintains the problem.

Thanks five7kid, I thought that was the case, will send them an email letting the seller know. I'll be putting a less restrictive exhaust on but so far I'm getting heads, cam, headers and thats all the money I can spend this month. But it will take me awhile to port the heads and intake.

I sent the guy an email and here is what he said. Maybe they have a new size out now. They don't list them on there website so there's noway to know.

"Hi,

Thanks for your observations. However, this description is straight from the horse's mouth because I checked to make sure.

Thanks for your interest.

Hi, I think your description is incorrect on those pace setters. Normally from what I know they only have 1.5" pipes and 2.5" collectors. Let me know if this is incorrect.

I found them on pace setters website and sure enough the tubes are 1 5/8 but the collector is only 2-1/2.

Just be careful with that brand, my friend bought a header/cat back system from them for his RX-7... it sounded like crap, was a b!tch to put on, and rotted away a year later!

Perhaps they are a different config than JCW is offering. Rather than taking a website's word, though, I'd think he could have put a caliper on a tube at least.

Notice that the end of the y-pipe (where it hooks to the cat) is the same size pipe as the down-pipes. And, the website says not for "HO" applications (i.e., the "good" ones).

Oh, another interesting factoid: If you search www.summitracing.com for "psm-70-1336", you'll see the price is $272.99. So, would you rather buy from a private party on ebay for $272.97 + $15 shipping, or Summit for $272.99 + $8.45 s&h?

Or a better question, wouldn't you rather have real headers for $359.99 + $8.45 s&h?

Pacesetters #70-1336

Hello, We sell the Pace setter for $272.99 also (un-coated of course) No these are not going to fit an H.O. motor.
Thanks JIMI@ ACS

The one's on ebay have a black coating, probally not anything. The person that was selling them did correct there auction though to say 2-1/2 collector. I've been eyeballing some chrome ones. I had no intention of buying them from the guy on ebay, just wanted to point out that there discription was wrong. I would rather buy them from a outfit that will stand behind them after the sale.

Question on headers. If I replace my heads with 416's do I need HO headers or is it just the rest of the exhaust system that they are not compatible with.

Thanks.

It's got nothing at all to do with the heads. They used 416s on LG4s and L69's, as well as the early LB9s.

It's all about the manifolds, y-pipe, cat, cat-back, muffler, and tail pipes. Changing the heads doesn't change what you can/need to do with the exhaust.
