true dual exhaust question
I have a friend that is going to remove the stock system with the 1 in 2 out flowmaster and custom make a true dual system with two flowmasters. I'm asking how will it sound with the mufflers closer to the engine or by the gas tank location like the stock set-up is. He says with the dual mufflers it will be louder but my main concern is how it sounds. My friend's has a 88 monte SS with the flowmaster by the tranny area and I like the way that sounded. Also i'm worried about if the mufflers were by the tranny area would I have problems it hitting speed bumps?

there are countless threads on this, do a search. The closer you put the mufflers to the engine the louder it will be. I had mine under the front seats for a while, and its just ridicolusly(sp?) loud, not to mention dragging on every bump in the street. You can put them under your rear seats for best fitment and ground clearance. I beat my rear seats up and got alot more gound clearence. My car was a V6 car so i didn't care about beating the bottom of the car up. I wouldn't do that to my other one though.

Got it in!
Well just did the dual system with 2 1/2" pipes and dual flowmaster 40 seriers mufflers with the mufflers right below the gas tank. Its awsome sounding at idle and at cruising speeds but once you give it more gas and hits a certail rpm's its has a loud raspy sound to it that I don't like.
What can I do?

you can send me your old 80 series
Other than that, i can't think of anything. you could maybe change the tips but that will have a minimal effect.

Got the problem fixed!
Well anyways then relocated the mufflers below the rear seat becasue the raspy sound was from the lenght of the tail pipes, it has to be no shorter than 3 feet is what they reccomend. So now it has that nice duel sound to it...
