Headers, AIR, and Emissions
I have a 91305tpi, i'm not 100% sure but i'm pretty damn sure this this has to have the AIR correct?
My question is if I use headers without the AIR provisions what will I have to do, and how will this effect my emmisions both visually and on the sniffer?
Thanks.

On the sniffer I don't think no AIR tubes will affect it a whole lot. There may be a difference, but not big at all. As far as visually, dunno, you could just get the air tubes, and plug it.

I would just get the air tubes if I didn't already have the headers without them
I just want to know if I can get away with these or if I needed to go buy new ones.

i'm an emissions inspector actually haha so you're in luck
You would fail for tampering on the visual inspection of the emissions control systems for the air pump and you would MOST LIKELY fail on the dyno test as well due to the fact that your air pump plays a large part in increasing the temp in your CAT as well as the exhaust manifold to burn up those gases left over after combustion before they escape out the tail pipe.
Sorry
There are ways to get around this though... i have a gutted CAT and I'm an emissions inspector, ya know what i mean?
Lemme know if i can help you out some more.

if you replace the smog pump with an idler, and you have smooth headers without the AIR hookups, it will look factory. so maybe the guy wouldnt notice the lack of the AIR system. i guess it all depends on who inspects it and how hard the laws are in your area.

Noone has any way of knowing if your car was suposed to run air. Some f-bodies ran pulsair, which did NOT use an AIR pump at all.
However, keep in mind the ECM has logic to take into account the air injection, and adjusts fuel accordingly. The removal of the air pump, and the car runs leaner than it is suposed to..
Keep this in mind before tampering with something.

That's actually incorrect, every single emissions inspector has an Emissions Control reference manual for every car made dating back to like the 60s(at least mine is). They tell us every component the car is supposed to have. And AIR/PAIR are the same emissions control component, being Air Injection. So if the car is supposed to have either one, if it doesn't or it's tampered or not hooked up correctly it'll fail for tampering on components.

And wouldn't the car run RICHER if you removed the air pump? Air being pumped in = more air = leaner.... no air being pumped in = less air, more Hydrocarbons = richer?

You can even transplant an entire LS1 into your thirdgen.

So the ECM assumes it has extra air, so delivers less fuel. If there really isn't extra air, then you're delivering NOT ENOUGH fuel. Get it?

Could you post pics and supply details on how and what parts to remove when eliminating the AIR pump.
Thanks in advance.
