Hooker 2460 and custom Y
Alright, I got a chop saw a welder and I'm ready to make a customer "Y" pipe for my setup. I already have the Flowmaters 2 into 1 pipe. I'm gonna use mandrel (of course) piping. Has anyone made a "Y" pipe for the headers, if so please let me know what pipes to get, 45/90 degree how many??? I'm thinking of 2 2 1/2 into the flowmaster two into one. If pics would help me. Thanks in advance

I didn't make this so I cannot help you much but this fits the 2460's I don't want to post a really huge picture here but if you want one where you can see the seperate pieces a little better e-mail me.

Thanks Pyro, the pic is great. I've been looking in the jc whitney catalog for the mandrel bent pieces. I'm thinking of 4-5 90 degree bends and a few 45 degree bends...thanks again for the pic and for replying.

Hey Crazy,
I'm the guy who built (and sold) Pyro's y-pipe. The hardest part of the whole thing is getting the drivers side collector to turn tight. Most generic mandrel bends have a fairly large radius, which makes it a PITA to join a 2.5" pipe and a 3" collector in a radius of ~4". If I were to do it again I would have the collectors dump into a very tight radius bend, then reduce to the 2.5" dia. under the oil pan, then the rest as pyro's pic shows. I also now use only aluminized or stainless pipe, that y was my first adventure in exhaust work and nearly my first go at using a crappy flux-core wire feed welder. Other than that fabbing a y-pipe is no sweat and IMHO the 2460s are easier headers to deal with.
I usually buy my pipe here: http://www.auto-jet.com.
They will be able to get you tight radius stuff, dunno about JCW.
Good luck,
Drew

Drew thank you so much for the helpful advice. I never thought about that tight radius. Thanks for the web address. I'm definately gonna give them a call.
p.s. for a beginner in the welding..you did a fab job!!!

Dave nice set up and great job.
Do you remember the sizes and degree angle bends you got from jegs?

Hi, I used 2, 2.5 in bends jegs # 289-42322, and one 3 in #289-42323 . The drivers side elbow is hard to make tight enough, I had to take a pie cut out of the u bend and tig it back together to get it tight like I wanted. I noticed jegs 2.5 in j bend # 289-42392 has a tighter radius than the ones I used so that would make it easier. I did not use collector reducers , I had my pal at the muffler shop take a couple short pieces of 2.5 in scrap and stretch it out to 3 in, took him about 5 seconds , then I cut out the 1 inch part with the transition and welded it to a 3 in collector ring for the header end and to the 2.5 inch elbows on the other. This got the y pipe started. I fabbed up the 2 into 1 piece from scratch and wont do that again, definitely buy that part. Jegs has the flow one #389-y250300A . The better pics I have are on my other computer which is hosed at the moment. Later , Dave

Dave,
Thank you so much for the part numbers, I really appreciate it.
I've heard about the tight radius, so that sounds like my only problem to face. I'll order my stuff hopefully this week and get this project "Y - Pipe" off!! Thanks again!!
