Hedman LT Header Question

i just recived a set of hedman long tubes for my car... as of now, the engine's out of the car being rebuilt. what would i need to buy to make my headers fit in my camaro? i have the G92 option, but i had my cats removed a while back. and i also have the 80 series flowmasters exhaust (came with the car, i'd get rid of it though if i had the cash to do so). thanks for all your help guys, just let me know everything i need to do to make the headers fit perfectly

you may need a ministarter to clear.... i know you do with hookers, not positive on hedmans.

you're going to need someone to fab up a Y pipe between the header outlets and your catback....

im not sure if you have O2 bungs already, but if you dont, you'll need them. (if you still have FI)

you should switch to a heated O2 sensor. more info on that in vaders post here:

my friend gave me an idea on using the hedman X-tensions and putting a set of purple hornies on them... pretty much true dual right there.

what do you think? it would probably cost more to have a custom y pipe done, and i'd be getting a little bit more power going practically open header. any suggestions?

wont fit. theres not enough room for a straight section to have purple hornies (hehe)

you could use thoes hedman extensions and run a dual system, or use em and Y into the catback in the tunnel....

if you want the option of running open headers you could put cutouts in as you're doing the exhaust....

athough really, if you have a good Ypipe and catback built all the cutouts will do is make more noise.

how much do you think it would cost to fabricate something like this... ( pic comes from the header faq post )... i'd probably just put turn downs at the end right there because i dont have that much money to actually have dumps come out the rear of my car, lol

you wouldnt have a muffler if you just put turn downs right there... you might as well have no exhaust.

fab shops charges are going to vari alot...... id start calling places now and find one that is willing to install a non emmissions legal exhaust on a emmissions controlled car.

chances are, you'll only have one or two choices anyway.

hmm... here's an idea i wanna see if anyone has an opinion on.

x-tensions:http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...16&prmenbr=361
x-pipe:http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...29&prmenbr=361
h-pipe:http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...49&prmenbr=361

i wanted to connect the x-tensions to the headers and then build the h-pipe onto the extension...or an x-pipe instead of the h-pipe... whichever flows better i guess

No need for a ministarter mine fit in just fine the x-tensions will get you under the crossmember but if you are looking at going to duals I can't help from there as I routed mine back into my 3" intermediate pipe.

i know you need it for the hookers... its really close on the hedmans... you may get away with it, but id think heatsoak may come up as a issue......

You'll need hedmen s-extensions, a custom y-pipe $22. I'd go with the 2 1/2 inch extensions (HED-18806). Dual 2 1/2 is a little overkill going into a single 3" catback but almost no exhaust shop will build you a y-pipe with mandral bends. You'll also need new spark plugs wires and I'd suggest buying a better header gasket like the felpro 1444, its like $14. You may want to ask the exhuast shop if you should buy a flowmaster y-pipe and o2 sensor fitting.

Don't forget a 3-wire oxygen sensor TPIS has them and thirdgen resource(they advertise on this board) carry their products. You may also want to install new spark plugs while your there.

edit: You have to pull the starter out while installing the headers but it will fit. Also the oil cooler lines cleared fine in my car. I have some pics and notes on my install in my cardomain site. Click the picture below.

should i just get a custom 3'' y-pipe that'll connect from the s-extensions to the catback? i just dont know what size piping to go with. and also, do you think cutouts would be a good idea on the y-pipe so i can run open headers? or would that be bad for power since i'd have no back pressure? and btw, how much you figure it would cost to have a custom y-pipe made? thanks dude

There is no prmade y-pipe for the hedman headers the x-tensions get you under the crossmember and I bought a flowmaster y to connect to the 3" I-pipe to simplify things at the exhaust shop and to speed up the process. They had to bend the pipe for the drivers side but the pass side was a straight shot.
A cut out or cut outs would not hurt you any but they may not help either.
