i ran open headers for awhile, i really got tired of it, cutouts would be cool because i only want it to be loud when i cruise, not everyday back and forth to work.

but i did love the sound!!

Mine is still in the box, but I love it anyway.

I am still debating on whether or not to install it.

when you have had open headers for about a year on a daily driver, its kinda nice to have full exhaust.

especially when it is late at night, your tired, on the freeway, listening to your engine drone on at 3,800rpm out of open headers......

you get the idea.

im going to install a cut-out with a electric plate. i noticed a lot of top end go out the window with full exhaust

I gained 21rwhp and 8rwtq by opening my cutout (before cat) in 2nd gear. It's well worth it.

Nevermind the fact that I gained an average of 20rwhp throughout the whole HP curve, and gained upwards of 15rwtq throughout the torque curve.

I really love mine as well.....but what REALLY made the biggest difference is getting the McCord Power Plate II for it. By the flip of a switch...NASCAR loud! without having to crawl underneath of the car

yep, I love my cutout! I got the electric butterfly plate so I can close it when ever I want... but that doesn't happen to often! I absolutly love the sound, you mention "Nascar loud", I have audio clips of my car that sound like a nascar flying by! I'm not sure if the rev sounds like a nascar (didn't rev very high at all), as I have never heard a nascar rev before But the flyby does sound like a nascar, especialy right after I passed the camera and was heading off in the distance. now if I only had 800 HP like a nascar

When I close the cutout, it seems like I'm in "stealth mode" hehe!

Yall got any clips of your exhaust with the cutout open?

Nice! I've got a pair of brand new 2.5" cut outs still in the box and just sitting on my self. Maybe I'll weld 'em on next week. Anybody have some open and closed 1/4 mile times?

You can get them from McCord or QTEC. They're both pretty much the same. You'll find stories about both of them going bad, but I think McCord has the better warrenty if I remember correctly.

McCord's Website

I'm just starting a build up that in all likely hood wont break 300 hp any time soon. I have 2055's on the way w/ a 3 inch american thunder ready to go on also. Do you think that the cutout would offer me that much of a power gain? Oh, and by the way, no cats, just headers and cat back.

I think the warrenty covers the motor and wiring, but I'm not sure.

That's what the electronic cutout's we are talking about do. We can open them all the way or anywhere in between so we tune'em....and scare off lil ricers....lol

here is my switch panel for my cutout..

Did Shawn Finley Install the Cutout. Good Man he is and very talented. He has more knowledge about engines in his finger than most people will ever Know about a engine.

So does the electronic cutout leak? When i have it closed i don't want it to sound like i got a hole in my exhaust. That's the only thing that i'm worried about with it. I think I'm going to buy a McCord PPII this summer

my McCord leaks when it's closed, it doesn't sound to bad though, I have driven around with it closed and people didn't notice the leak. you have to listen for it. But then again, I might be lucky and have a good sealing plate.

i ran my car with just headers and a y-pipe for about 8 months, so its exactly the same thing.

exhaust dumps right under the passenger seat.

only downside is, it is LOUD inside the car. don't expect to be able to talk on to the person next to you when your accelerating (even slowly) with the cutout open.

It sounds great and i have wanted to have a cut out for a LONG time, but i was wondering, what is the diameter of the exhaust pipe before the cat, since thats where i want to put it

I got 2.73's and the tires were wrinkling in 3rd at 4000rpm, they were gonna break the bead.

My setup is Edelbrock 1 5/8 headers, into a 3" Edelbrock Y pipe, 3" cutout, high flow cat, soon to be 3" Hooker catback.

Basically you are right, but I wanted to get a starting point. The tires had around 32psi in them, what the book calls for.
