Wanted to know if anyone with the same car....or very similar (89' Firebird Formula 350 WS6) has installed the Hooker 2055 Headers on their car and if they ran across any difficulties or what do i have to look forward to? I have the AIR tubes removed on the exhaust manifolds now. Thanks

you shouldnt have any problems bolting them in, my slps are 1 3/4 and still went it and bolted up with out any clearance problems other than the streering shaft alittle bit. the only other minor problems was just getting the oil dipstick back in and bolted to the header, had to rig up some washers and a bolt. works fine.

not having air tubes or smog stuff helps alot, also not haivng a/c does also..

Do like MdFormula did and REMOVE THE DIPSTICK. I did not and now it is a useless mangled peice that i cannot get out of the block. I would have to pull the header to get it out and that isn't ahppening any time soon. It is a good thing that the car is sitting because I cannot check the oil. I have everything disconnected from it but it will not slide out of the block. It is sorta pinned down and kinked by the header on that side. I bet it would come right out if there header weren't there.

Just wanted to say thanks for the help or info. I did my hooker super comp 2055 install and it was a joke. Very easy install, and man what sound they make........These headers really helped my Trick Flow Twisted Wedge G2 heads and Stealth Ram breathe.

Someone here mentiond it looking tight with the AC. Has anyone had a problem getting 2055's, or 2460's in with the ac on an lO3?

About the dipstick...Is it easy to remove? is it going to leak a bunch of oil when i pull it off? My 2055's should be here anyday and just wondering is there anything else that needs to come off? Isnt it possible to just pivot the AC out of the way once you unhook it from the block? AIR pump is leavin and not comming back...

I'm going to clear most ?'s up. First of all i started the install and had no AIR tubes or smog pump. Also, i cut off the air tubes and had the holes welded up. I lifted the car on jack stands and removed the stock y pipe and cut it off from the rest of the exhuast. Pulled it out of the way and lowered the car. Started with the driver side since it seemed to have the most room. Removed the exhaust manifold......changed the spark plugs........then slipped the header right in. No clearance problems at all. Went in perfect.

For the passenger side.......i removed the exhaust manifold, changed the plugs, removed the oil dipstick ( NO oil wil leak out don't worry ) and TRIED to fit the header in place. DIDN"T happen . Easy fix......i removed the two bolts on the starter and droped it down ( with the battery cable DISCONNECTED ), and removed the long bolt from the engine mount. jacked up the passenger side of the motor with a jack ( a wooden board between the jack and oil pan ). Then the header just dropped right in. Bolted it up. The last bolt in the very back was a pain in the @** but i modified a 7/16 wrench ( cut it in half, made it small enough to work and fit ) and just screwed it in turn by turn. I could use a 7/16 socket on most of the other bolts to tighten them up. With the starter still removed I replaced the oil dipstick back in the block....making sure it went all the way in snug. Next replaced the starter, and then put the y-pipe on ( very easy, just bolts up ). Droppped the car, reconnected the battery and plug wires. Then cranked it up. Like I said a very easy install, just time consuming. And they sound NICE.

Did you need to buy 90* plug wires for this?

You don't have to and you can change your wires around a bit to keep them off the headers but it is good insurance to buy some. You can gte a set for $50 with 90* boots.
