3rd to 4th Gen Borla tip swap?

I did a search and noticed that a few of you guys swapped the not-so-nice tips that come with a third gen Borla cat-back for a set off a fourth gen system. I (personally) don't like the standard third gen tips, but wasn't aware that I had any options. I know that they probably won't be perfectly straight or evenly spaced, as the Borla tips tend to be, but is it just a straight swap? Off with the old ones and on with the fourth gen's? It seems like all I need is the end (tip) section off the other system (right behind the last clamp) on either side. Is this correct? Or do I need the entire tailpipe-- behind the Y? This is something I'd really like to do, but I'm not too sure exactly what I need or where I can find it. Any help you guys can give me is really appreciated, especially if anyone knows where I can get what I need. Thanks

I have the hooker cat back with the universal 2.5" Borla intercooled tips. More pics can be seen on my site. The 4th gen outlest are 2.5" so you need to mtach that with your cat-back.

They look nice because they are not just a thin round pipe like your average joe muffler shop puts on. They have the intercooled design on the ends which I think fills the void a large diameter exhaust pipes. I used the tips that came with the hooker cat back but they were just to gawdy and big. Not to mention the quality was horrendous on the tips.

Here is a bit better pic to show you what they look like from under the car

those tips do go well with your car, but they are a little different than the ones that come with the borla cat-back. The ones on the borla cat-back are slashed.

You can get any tip you want without buying the cat back. Borla makes a ton of differnt kinds that fit a whole array out outlet sizes. They have recently changed the standard tip that comes with the kit for our cars. It is now dual 3.5" single pipes. The 4th gen kits still come with quad square version of what I have. The ones with a slant are very extreem. I had them for like 5 minutes and sent them back. You cannot tell how much of a slant there is until you get one in your hands.

I know that Borla makes plenty of tips. But, the problem with those is that the tips that come with the cat-back system are bent a specific way. Also, the passenger "tip" is not actually a tip. It has a flange at the beginning of it that bolts to the rest of the exhaust behind the restrictor plate. I THINK (not really sure) that I need specific tips to replace the ones I have...

Hey shifty....I saw the picture of the borla system in the new Jegs catalog. They had it as one of the features. I called them and they guy told me that the system hasn't changed at all. Where did you get your information that they changed the system?

Well the reason why I say it changed was because in the new jegs they have a pic of the set-up and it has a part number rigth next to it. I looked up the part number in the listing and it said it was the 3rd gen system. It had tips that resemble the 3.5" tips on the SLP loudmouth system.

I am not sure but I am pretty sure that they are just tips. I know about the cutout but that still has a tail pipe attached to it that has the bend in it. I will look at a few more pics to make sure but I am pretty confident that they are just tips.
