I have those headers for my 88 bird and Im not realy happy with them If you can i would highly recomend to look at other manufacturers for these reasons : THey are way too close to wiring, you have to go under the car to change spark plugs, the clearence for headerbolts is very minimal when it comes to the rear of the block (passenger rear bolt has very minimal room to put a cresent wrench in there), spark plug wires is another mission not only will you have to start buying universal wires (you have to fit them yourself dropping down the back of the distributer, hugging the block but not too close to where the current jumps--wire seperators) you will also have to buy the asbestos heat sheat sleeves so they dont burn (optional but is recomended) as the path of the tubing is not optimal, with their y pipe you cannot add a larger oil pan as there will be rattling of the pipe onto your pan and the crossmember. To get the header in on the driver side you have to colapse the steering columb (which is not that big of a deal) at the knuckle. I dont mean to scare you off but just letting you know because I have a set..the one thing I will say is that the hi temp coating is excellent and does not fade or warp and they are emitions legal even in cali. But if I had to do it over again I would have checked out other manufacturers to see if their design would provide you with more clearence.

I think that some of those 'problems' you mention are pretty common to many headers. I had some hedmans or hookers (shorties) about 10 years ago and had to jack up the driver's side of the engine to get them in past that steering shaft you mention. I've heard you can get the Flowtech's in without doing that, but then you have to accept the fact that they are 1.5" primaries and 2.5" collectors. I think I spent about as much time getting the locking header bolts (Stage 8) on as it took to get the manifolds off and down into place, so getting all the locking hardware on there is a SOB. There is another type of locking header bolt that you can expand after tightening them in..... they look promising. Someone posted a thread here about them, but I forget who makes them. As far as plug wires go, consider building your own custom set. You can build your own and get the best quality for the same price (actually cheaper) than a prefabbed set, and you can get them to fit any way you want. I bought a roll of about 25' of MSD wire, all the boot ends, and even some shrink tubing that is marked 1-8 so you can label both ends of 'em. Maybe two hours of fabbing them up and I couldn't be happier. All for about $60. Oh, and I have some Moroso centerbolt wire looms that work great! Also highly recommended to keep those wires off your headers. I've had no problems burning a wire since I put the setup on about a year ago. But then again, looks like this thread is wandering off its own way since he was asking about O2 sensor bungs!

Can you mount a seperator on the passenger side? or is it too cramped....a little tangent is healthy every once in while!! JK

wow man theres alot of room for those wires on your headers ... with the edelbrocks that Im using , you have to go underneath and route them all to the back of the block on the passenger side and driver. Who makes those headers?

They're flowtech..... that's probably why! The small 1.5" primaries make them easy to work with, but might not be the best for high RPM, high flow applications. I read a Chevy High Performance article where they actually gained HP in some RPM range with 1.5" primaries over larger diameter headers on a 383, I think it was. But it seems like the only way to know for sure on a certain application is to get it dynoed. I figured for higher power setups, you would always want larger headers, but after reading that.... who knows???
Oh yea, the y-pipe blows. Little if any improvement over the stock one.
