headers

Hello! Can anyone tell me if the headers off of a 350 on an el camino will work in our cars?

Will they bolt to your motor, yes. Will they clear the firewall and underhood compartment, unlikely.

they are long tube headers, going into 3" collectors.

these look like them, but the tubes are not as long as these are...

No offense but all headers "look similar." You are going to have to just try and bolt them in. That is the only way to tell. Typically speeking any header not desinged to fit in a 3rd gen engine bay will not work.

no they wont clear...... they'll smack into the firewall first, and even if they didnt, they try to exit where the "frame rails" are under the car.... not inside them, but in the same space as them.

i can speak from experience. i had an old 81 el camino and i took the headers off of that (longtubes) and they DID NOT hit the firewall. i did however, have to do little denting to the framerails underneath. the only problem i had with them was the ground clearance. they scraped like no other. now i did use them with factory engine mounts (rubber ones). i switched to solids for my new motor/project and they WILL NOT fit with the moroso solid mounts for our cars.

the lower part of the firewall, near where the trans tunnel curve is.

it was one of thoes "lets just try it" kind of things...

thinking about it, they could have been 1stgenfbody headers but i thought they were chevelle.... and chevelle = elky.

i guess it does depend on the year of the elky and the types longtube vs short. he obviously is using the longtubes but from what years. that will make the difference.
